Jap-wise report on the game so far:

Um......I'm starting phase 2 where I ship some planes to the places where I've landed just troops in the past. I'm actually loading some planes and shipping them to the perimeter of the boundry so as to project force better. To ward off some of the air attacks and protect what I've gained already. Most of the easy parts are already grabbed now I gotta concentrate on the not so easy ones. The contested ones. Rabaul is getting hit almost every turn now with Allied B-17's and I need some CAP there to discourage that. And some AA units can't hurt there at Rabaul. And some planes couldn't hurt the Miri area and around Jolo. There seems to be an operational Allied field with some fighters at or near Cebu and I'm going to have to put a stop to that sooner or later. Because Davao is getting pounded via the air. Davao and Bubbledrop seem to be important hubs and I need them free of Allied interference for loading and unloading so I'm thinking I need some CAP at Bubbledrop too. I'm marching down to the SW on the PI and northward from Davao and soon the Allied aircraft won't have quite so many airfields to operate from as I grab them and convert them, fix them etc. I'm trying to expand ports and airflelds as I capture them so the supply of fuel and supply is important also, not just troops. They are all going in at the same time if possible. Grabbing them, expanding them, moving on to the next one and doing the same. The captured area is getting bigger and bigger with each passing turn. For the last two weeks now. Jim is fighting back here and there punching and jabbing looking for weaknesses and finding one every once in a while. His subs are really busy. I'm trying to keep my subs moving too. I'm keeping an eye on the economy and it's doing as well as I thought it might be doing about this time in the game. Nothiing is crashing down yet. Lots of resources to move still. Port Arthur is close and accessable so far. Hokkaido is a good source of resources too. Thanks, whoever told me about that.

That is about the best compliment I can hope for - it is true to what happened in real life... So far everything falling because I cannot protect it, YES I am reduced to spending an hour per turn, figuring out if I can hold my positions and if not, how far back do I fall? USN subs are not effective fighters because of the torps, but are great at intel gathering. Larry's plan is solid and what he is posting is ambitious, but doable...I can only hope Larry overexpands and loses the economy balance because I found playing the A.I. the economy is REALLY hard to get it back on track once it slides into the negative.

I think maybe it might be time to start posting stuff again. I've got about 5 or 6 turns of stuff saved up now and our OPSEC is probably safe.

This is from the 17th of Dec 41:

Just from the first glance at the Intelligence display I'd say I have a lot of Manchukuo stuff that I can buy out with my PP's to use elsewhere, and I've got about 1250 PP's now.

I'm pretty sure Jim is going to run out of Warhawks on Clark Field eventually and if he doesn't buy out the B-17's and move them they might get trapped and destroyed also. I'm trying to capture all the possible airfields that Jim might use to fly out his aircraft and that's a hard thing to do with the B-17's range. He's still got fields he can fly stuff to in Borneo and the DEI and places like that but pretty soon those are going to be gone.

Jim is driving his subs hard and it shows. I've lost a bunch of ships to his subs the last couple of turns. I'm going to have to figure out how to configure my convoys to have escorts in them before I lose this war.

One of the Hong Kong MTB's sortied and was sunk in a series of sea battles. This is the result of the third sea battle.

Jim is double-teaming me with his subs off the coast of Cam Rahn Bay. I'm going to lose more than these two ships I think.

Larry is concerned with MY subs? I seem to have a bad case of Sub-itis myself!
He has flooded Pearl Harbor with subs, I'm estimating between 6-10 subs...Then theres the West Coast - I've put every ASW capable aircraft and ship I have there on patrol. I'll post a pix shortly.

More to come, the OPSEC issue slowed things down but now we are picking up steam again and reports should be a lot faster.

Why am I throwing the kitchen sink? This is the reason for the bagging a CA comment earlier... I had 4 subs all in the general area and sent them all... NOT O N E sighting by them...the TF just disappeared! Hyperspace? Warp speed Scotty-san? Where's The Fun???

LOL just shake my head and keep plugging along... I'll gladly sink the TK's and AO's but a warship would do wonders for the morale!

Larry,
When I'm running my turn, Combat Reporter is essentially the replay in snapshots with writing... For idiots like me, it allows me to Alt + Tab between windows and I can look at what I need to address next. (like the enemy TF reported location would be in the Sea battle directory, reported sightings, Intel reports, etc.)

Its available under mods and one of the designers (Bret) checks frequently on the thread for questions and problem reports.

It allows me to not have so many D'Oh moments and saves a TON on the writing pads I was filling up! All hail Combat Reporter!

Moo, don't forget your subs can also move supplies.  They can get to places the AKLs can't, but they need to dock in order to unload.  Keep the US ones loaded with torpedoes, you still have a coin flip if they hit the target.  After they deliver supplies change them to Sub Patrol mode and give them a hex for reaction on their way home.  I'd move the long range subs based at Pearl to Australia after Wake falls.  They'll do more good there.

Ok - another thing I wasn't aware of... I thought it had to be subs like the Narwhal to carry supplies (of any consequence). Ive been using the Dutch subs for the hunting in South China Sea, and down the P.I. The S boats have been doing picket duty for me and I got most of them out of Manila... The newer class boats are milling around, I'm trying to guess where Larry is going next and put them there... None to sucessful - so far!

It's good advice - its going to take me around a month to put the subs in place to follow your good advice... I refer the USN subs as the "can't-shoot-straight gang" They have missed so many golden opportunities in A.I. games - I dont trust them now...probably to my detriment.
