found one from a movie about hannibal

"the romans are trained to fight in one way only, that makes them predictable
- we'll present them with the unexpected, and watch them fall apart"

There's a quote I heard. "Hannibal knew how to win a battle but he did not know how to win a war".

I got it from Rome Total War.

Commander, you know how to add a mod to a steam account? I lost my disks years ago and got RTW off of steam the other day. Sucks not having a mod, the vanilla game is not playable anymore.

Don't know if it's word-for-word authentic, but I've always loved this one from the movie Patton:

"No b*****d ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor, dumb b*****d die for HIS country."

One of my favorites is from Eisenhower:
“In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.”

So true in this game as well! Many things change so you can't follow a plan to the letter, but the understanding gained from the process will allow you to adapt and develop new responses quickly!

Can anyone recall a quote from Admiral Somerville (I think it was) referring to the R-class ships of the Eastern Fleet? Something about them being old tarts.....

I think the battle at the Chosin Reservoir gave the two best quotes :
OP Smith's
"Gentlemen, we are not retreating. We are merely advancing in another direction"
and Chesty Puller's
"We're surrounded. That simplifies our problem of getting to these people and killing them"

And OP Smith wasn't lying and Chesty Puller wasn't just fake bravado.

This is a great book on that conflict, and will firmly cement anyone's hatred of Macarthur who this time almost added a division of marines to his list of units lost (if they would have obeyed Almond/Macarthur's orders to the letter, the 1st Marine division and Puller's first Marine regiment would have certainly perished

'....the War situation has developed not necessarily to Japans advantage, while the general trends of the world have all turned against her interest.'

If that is not the all time master of the understatement, then I don't know what is!
