I have recently purchased DW + expansions and from what I have seen and played it really does look like an exceptional game, the depth of gameplay mechanics and scope are really impressive. Congratulations to Elliot who pretty much single handedly has accomplished what entire game teams could not.

If I could offer some constructive criticism (not to detract from Elliot's achievement), one section that was however disappointing was diplomacy. Unlike so many other aspects of the game, diplomacy really seems to lack the depth of other areas. I would really love to have seen something akin to Space Empires V diplomacy options which allow a plethora of negotiated conditions from trading specific levels of tech x years old, to the colonization of races inside each others territory, open border migration, collaboration of research, refuelling and rearming of ships in each others territory, plus you can name the treaty and keep it active for x period of time and even renegotiate conditions already agreed to at a later date. The list goes on its actually quite impressive.

With another expansion on the way (as I understand it) perhaps diplomacy can get some attention and expansion :)

Many other DW players have the same thoughts about the diplomacy aspect of the game. There is not a lot of flexibilty or, sometimes, logic to the diplomatic choices available. The player can also take an unfair advantage of the AI empires with the way it works now. Just like the ship design area was greatly improved, I firmly believe diplomacy will get a makeover as well.

Sorry, but I don't think, that ship design was greatly improved. At present state it doesn't give any bonuses to AI.

I would love to see a diplomacy-centered expansion.

Don't get me wrong, I'd say DW diplomacy is about as fleshed out as most other 4X games (I haven't played SEV), it's not like it's bad or anything. I'd just like to see DW hit it out of the park, so to speak, when it comes to diplomacy implementation.

It is not just about lobbing every treaty under the sun to make diplomacy better. The SEV A.I was a complete joke when it came to using those treaties. The A.I would agree to not research or bombard planets with little effort in release, heh. The SEV balance mod basically stopped the A.I using most of that system to make it work.

The system needs to be changed to make the A.I better.I think straight up tech and map trading need to be reworked into new treaties.Migration should be part of the trade treaty deal.CIV5 style research treaties.Map trading would be part of the military alliance, ect.Diplomacy should be done with diplomats charaters to stop spamming.Money bribing needs to scale with your crazy economy numbers mid game.
