Links are up and running. If you get a 404 error it literally means the FTP is busy. You need to try again later.

You can also use an FTP client tool to connect directly to the FTP:

FTP: ftp.matrixgames.com
Username: anonymous
Password: *your email adress*
Port: 21
Mode / Data connection type: Use PASV

i used the ftp thing pasted it into the address bar. as for differences in the game? well....ummmm when it starts up it had the bright red starships unlimited title like on the boxes for the game in the store. i played a new game to test out the random events mode it even gave the option of turning it on or off but i didn't notice any random events. also theres this new thing maybe its new where you can order the ships to carry out their missions on their own (i know that was already in there) but now you can set priorities like pirates or resource systems or planetary defense. i think thats new. plus the save feature finally works. :D

HI Marc,

I tried the link again, but I'm still getting the error "530 Sorry no ANONYMOUS access allowed."

I also tried pasting the address to the ftp site into my browser, but I received the same error message.

The same thing happened when I tried to download the 1.2 patch a few weeks ago.

I wonder if the random events are implemented yet since, in a game I have them on, I have yet to see any events after many many years.

Anybody else notice a bit of "clumpiness" with the artifacts? Like many times I'd get the exact same artifact twice in a row (Point Defender in the latest case). In a random universe I realize any items can come up but it seems that, for the most part, if I get repeats of an artifact type its the very next planet.

Here´s the fix list I got from Andrew:

1. Added random events
2. AI players handle ship crews better
3. Shortened the time to research things
4. Now defaulting to 10x game speed
5. Some stability fixes

i just put in the ftp and it worked fine for me.

as for the patch, im not sure what is changed because its sort of sublte, it looks like now the ship assigns engineers also instead of just navy personall. also instead of having stuff planet side appear as the little hud green linething now theyre actual things likea little pyramid and a cloud like the stuff in orbit around the planets. i like the new stuff like that but its sorta lame having every artifact as just the pyramid and seemed like it needed some sprucing up.

as for the random events. i set that on too and i didn't notice any random events and im well into the game. is there a folder we can look up and see what random events there are? can you just tell us what they are and how there supposed to work? or are they random events that we can hardly notice or something?????

Random events are subtle and take about 100 years before occuring. They may also occur on another player, in which case you won't know about it. Games also default to random events off.

Well I've tried and tried and still can't download the patches. :(

Get the "530 error message" in Netscape and "Can't find DNS server" in IE6.

I can't get the patch either. I don't recall the exact message, but it is basicly the white screen saying it can't bring up the page I need.

The links for Version 2.0 of SUDG doesn't seem to work. I see that others have the same problem I do. Is anyone looking into fixing this?
