Many units with 90 experience. Is it a bug?

I haven't kept up on the boards, but I'm surprised in these reinforcement threads you are starting no one has wondered why the units arrive in Aden/Canada instantly. Perhaps this is a limitation of the engine itself for this kind of triggering, but I would have thought a more elegant/accurate method would be to have a delayed arrival. The unit would arrive in Aden in X number of days, depending on roughly how far away from theater they are, with some time to extract battle units, etc..

This might have been covered and I just missed someone saying "oh yeah, it's an engine limit".

I thought of that too and just chalked it up to a necesary abstraction. Then I thought about it and considered that if such an even occured in RL, it would not have been a surprise. Even without breaking the Japanese codes, signals intelligence especially traffic analysis was highly effective. This is one place where the game's Sigint function fails us. Both sides had a pretty good idea of the location of major units throughout the war. The Battles of Santa Cruz and Eastern Solomons were no accidents. Traffic analysis told both sides the opponent's carriers were at sea and where they were before they departed.

I view the instant arrival as merely the game representing preparations going on in the background as the threat grows. It is only when the actually event occurs that the players see what was going on behind the scenes all along. At least that is how I explain it

One of the things this game lacks is the consequences of withdrawing any of these units away from the North African/European theatre, particulary in 1942 whan the NZ forces played such an important part of the North African campaign.

Pax,

That makes total sense. A few follow up questions please:

1. Do you get these Supply Convoys only as reinforcements for an invasion? I seem to have gotten a few of them on occasion.

2. In my game it says "37 Merchant Ships". Does that mean I will get an additional 37 not listed already in the ships to come? If so, about how long of a time until they come? right away?

No. Supply convoys arrive throughout the war. If you look at ground reinforcements for CD it will list all the convoys due to arrive.

No, only what they are carrying.

I believe each merchant ship and tanker translates to fixed amount of supply and fuel once the unit disbands. i do not recall the amount.

No, not a bug. The units arriving with 90 experience are the components of 2nd NZ Division, which in real life had fought in Greece, Crete, and Operation Crusader by the time of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. The other arriving units have only 40 experience.

Hm, nice...so now I know what Al got when I invaded and captured his Home Islands
- Looks like it's a good deal for the Allies even if they loose some extra units that have been ferried in to stiffen the Home Island garrisons.

Yeah, it went something like this: "Bah - the horrible Norwegian is kicking sand in my eyes by invading the homeland, I'll just succour myself with the NZ 2nd Div:

Note the strange way they combine with the Maori battalion component listed at the top and the rest of the inf squads at the bottom

It was the only way they could get the NZ Div back home, they own the water!

That horrible norwegian that's how you refer to me!-p-)
- We need to finish that campaign Al, think I'm about to bog down...or did I have you there in the Fijis?-)

The 2nd Div is indeed a nice unit, will it be used to re-capture Oz or Burma? :-)

Good heavens, you pessimists! Doors of South America indeed. Fiji may be suffering under the yolk of Imperial 'direction', but Samoa and the Phoenix islands are firmly in the hands of the good guys. I think I even gave the cunning Norwegian (cunning, is that better John? ) a fright with a carrier attack when he thought the days of worrying about them were gone. And while NZ and I may not own all of Aussie from sea to boundless sea, PzB is not getting it all his own way.

We will have to spark it up again John.

As to the Kiwi 2nd Div, there's a wee hint to their objective in the picture - don't look John

You've started prepping already.

(Hows the shaky city going? Or has the heavy rain softened the quakes.)

Well, we have lot's of cunning plans - just like Baldrick, so maybe that's fitting!
Yeah, all the slow stuff is killing you, like a Swordfish sealed Bismarcks fate....

Imperial HQ is enjoying local treats in Auckland, so may be some time before they get fed up on hangi and start looking for new treats!
Look where?-p)

Better hand the thread back!
