I cannot seem to be able to queue missions for fleets. It seems to work fine for individual ships, but when I queue next mission for a fleet it makes it the current mission. Maybe I'm doing something stupid. Or, is this a known bug?

thanks.

Simple answer,

check if on automatic.

I can issue fleet orders in a query as long as in manual control. The minute I put the fleet in automatic any new order will cancel the automation and clear all orders for all the ships in the fleet. They then will execute the new order immediately.

To order another mission while on automatic
example:
If I issue a fleet order to refuel and put things on automatic. On the way I spot a pirate.

I can go down to a specific ship in that fleet and tell it to attack the pirate and then immediately put that ship back in automatic control. It will execute an attack on the pirate, meanwhile the rest of the fleet refuels because the fleet orders did not change. When the selected ship finishes with the attack it will check the fleet orders and refuel if the fleet still has that order.

If I had not put the ship that attacked the pirate back on automatic right away when pirate attack is over it would not check the fleet orders and would sit until a fleet order was called.

I hope this makes sense.

I think I understand what you're saying, but I think I have a different problem.

I am making sure I issue the order to the entire fleet, not individual ships. But I am trying to issue a follow-on order (to queue up a new order to be executed after the fleet finishes what it is doing now). But that queued order becomes the current, existing order immediately.

For example:

Fleet ABC is going to Planet X. While it is enroute to Planet X, I select the fleet and right-click to "Queue next mission" and use that to tell it to go to Planet Y *next*

Instead, it immediately starts going to Planet Y. It never reaches planet X.

I really want to be able to queue up a lot of missions for fleets and ships, but the queueing seems broken for fleets in the game and not very useful for ships.

Also, I don't seem to be able to set a ship to repeat orders. For example, how can I set a troop transport to go to Planet G and pick up troops and drop them off at planet H, and then keep doing this?

Not as big a deal as the fleet queueing problem, but still it would be nice to be able to do.

...any ideas?

thanks

Don't get discouraged. We can work this out step by step.

when this happens is you fleet under manual control?

at the bottom left of the screen there is the selection panel

at the bottom of this panel are buttons.

The button farthest to the right is a button to automate the fleet.

If this button shows a half blue circle with an arrow crossed out in red that means you are in automation.

The AI controls things in automation and any order you issue no matter what will cancel all current orders it is trying to follow.

If that button shows just the blue 1/2 circle with arrow you are in manual control.

This mode allows us to add missions and not disturb the current set of orders.

Try this in your current game:

----------------------------------------------------------------
create a new fleet large enough to attack a neighbors planet.

1 has to be a troop transport with troops on it.

With the fleet selected and visible in the selection panel

issue 1 move order and then query 2 more move orders to different planets.

when this ships start moving issue another query to refuel.

The ships will keep moving toward their 1st target.

now turn on automation by pressing the 1/2 blue circle with arrow.
the blue circle with arrow will now be crossed with a red circle and line.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
now issue a query to the fleet to go to another planet.

The fleet will immediately cancel all orders and go to that planet.

notice that the blue arrow is back on telling you have manual control.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Try this now...

With the fleet selected and displayed in the selection panel
issue 1 attack order on your neighbor and then query 2 more move orders to different planets

when the ships start moving issue another query to refuel.

The ships will keep moving

now turn on automation by pressing the 1/2 blue circle with arrow.
the blue circle with arrow will now be crossed with a red circle and line.

The fleet is fully automated and will carry out the orders you gave it.
------------------------------------------------------------
now click on the troop transport icon in the fleet menu

issue an attack order again

automation is turned off now because you issued an order to the troop transport but the fleet is still automated.

now query a load troops order
and finally issue another query to attack

turn the automation back on for the troop transport so it will go back to the latest fleet order when it is finished.

notice the query's are loaded for the troop transport.

the troop transport will drop troops

go back and get more troops and then drop them again

After the troop transport has finished all the orders you issued it will now look to what the fleet is doing at the time and follow those orders.

If the fleet is now on the refuel order the troop transport will refuel.
