I'm following both sides, so can't say anything about the war. I do want to say, though, how much I'm enjoying the reading. Both players are actually good writers -- unfortunately, that's a rare case. This is a pair of the easiest-to-follow AARs I've ever seen. Keep up the good work!

I guess I have chosen a heckuva set of AAR's to follow for my first read. Good luck on my part. I didn't even know how much I didn't know until I started reading these on the weekend. Now I have an even greater hole in my supposed beginner knowledge base than I thought I had.
I would guess alot of people spend as much time reading as playing to gain the amount of insite and background and the most obsure details that can totally change gameplay.
I almost needed to start a glossary of terms to figure out what was being said. I couldn't figure out why both had Human Resources coming up in your games as an example, until about post 4xx when someone slipped that it was house rules... then had to figure out what house rules meant exactly as that doesn't show up as an option on the preferences menu. The learning curve is steep and I haven't actually figured out how to play the actual game yet.
LOL
One thing kind of puzzles me though, there was some back and forth a couple times (I was reading both AAR's concurrently) about the paratroop drop thing to scout troops composition (if that is the correct read I got). Why do the devs not just make the fog of war much more prevalent? I am not a historian or military trained but was it "realistic" to be able to garner that much information and what is the point of having that much information. I thought that was what fog of war was all about? Yes, you know if you are fighting a particular group or Rommel or something but knowing that there are exactly 2134 units in the hex you are attacking? Problably not even your commander would know the accuracy of his own troops that well.
Anyway, this has been a very interesting read so far and look forward to the outcome of this battle. I will hopefully keep gaining information at the alarming rate I have been as I continue to read the unfolding saga.

Update? I don't want to peek at Dan's AAR.

Not really much going on right now. Im wrapping up the final offensive operations and Canoe is digging in it seems. I think it will be a quiet couple of months now.

Thanks for all the comments, I really appreciate it.

Right now there is not much going on. An average turn consists of a submarine attack and a couple of ground attacks in India and China. There is no sign of any large allied fleet-movement, and my units are mostly shuffling around.

I am ending my offensive operations outside China, the last hurrah will be the clearing of northern Sumatra. 3 divisions from Singapore have landed there to clear the area, after that they will relocate to India.

It's "pretty" close, but yours leave a hair, (er....one hair?) to the imagination!

We have just had a death in the family, my girlfriend just lost her uncle, and they were very close. And since Im a lawyer, Im doing all the legal stuff that comes with that on top of trying to be a support for my her. So, truth to be told, right now my heart is only half in this game. Im trying to sneak in a turn now and then at night when she is asleep, but it is not always possible, and right now the game comes as a distant second to family.

But this too shall pass, things will return to normal sooner or later. But the updates on the AAR will be a bit sporadic for a while.

Sorry for the loss. These moments definitely put things in perspective. I hope you're both getting to spend time with the family.

Thanks.

Some updates.

Akagi and Kaga were spotted in the north pacific as they sunk a single US DD prowling the harbors around Dutch Harbor. Since Canoe now knows there are CVs there I dont think he will attack. Im moving the CVs south towards Midway to perhaps raid Hawaii and/or the West Coast.

Northern China is in Japanese hands, save a base or two. Langchow was captured without a fight, and even with the forts intact. Chinese supply situation must be dire right now.

Sumatra is cleared by 3 Divisions from Singapore. They will now shift to India. I have 5 divisions moving to India now, and the KB will accompany them as escorts. Still no sign of the US CVs since Indomitable took a torpedo off Ceylon.

Im building up the defences in the areas where I dont want Canoe to attack. Most notably around Guadalcanal, Shortlands, Tarawa, Kawajelein, Ocean Island, Einetwok, Wake. I want to guide him into an attack in the north pac.
