The caption for this pic is "Wrens loading a torpedo onto a submarine"

Can you spot the errors?

And no jokes about massive weapons being handled by young women.

Ah, but they can fix that now - perhaps you should try again?

OK ladies! Listen up!
For the umpteenth time - the short fat ones are BOMBS and the long thin ones are TORPEDOs! They have to be handled differently ...
What are you giggling about? Stop that smirking Rita!
Now, you will find it most difficult to wheel a cart onto a submarine, so don't even try. You need something nice and erect to lift the torpedo and swing it to the opening ... STOP THAT INFERNAL GIGGLING! What ARE you girls on about anyway?? [fade]

Oh, I used to DREAM of only being a lesbian trapped in a man's body. I'm a lesbian vacationer trapped in a working man's body.

I seriously need to get AE copied to my desktop. I have been reduced to fighting Stalker Girl to use her laptop.

Me: Oh, come on, just let me finish my turn.

SG: No, I'm still working.

Me: "Working"? Hah. <stops making G&T and walks over to look at screen> Just as I thought, Castleville! Don't forget the magic iron bar.

SG: At least I don't know how mine turns out.

Me: And your gig will last for a couple of centuries and then someone will chop off your head.

SG: No they won't.

Me: You wanna bet? No..forget it. I refuse. It's too stupid. Besides, on mine I learn geography.

SG: What, are you trying out for Jeapardy? Geek, geek, geekety geek.

Me: We are so done with this converstaion. <Goes to turn on Netflix>

On their way back to Sydney, the carriers sweep around Ceram in a brilliantly unpredictable route to maximize air cover from land and to utilize land based ASW aircraft to scour the water for...............D'oh!

Well done, Cap'n. You did a fine job uncovering those pesky Jap subs.

Maybe you can follow up by 'finding' one of their pesky SCTFs with your amphibious assault TF for Menado? That'll show 'em.

Yes, quite a crever exploit I discovered.

I call it "recon by explosion".

How long do you reckon it will take to repair 28% flooding aboard Yorktown at Sydney?

Oh, putting her in dry dock, pumping out the water and patching the hull should only take about 5 days.
Fixing the stuff damaged by the explosion, fires and water - about three months!
Give it top priority and maybe you can have it back in six weeks - if there are no upgrades to be done ...
[assuming of course that Sydney has been built to max size].

Cap,

Ur PM box is full. So no thx you, for ya! Ack i need to set draft list...
If its major damage Sydney has a a cap 30k repair yard and York is 20k tonnage. So u cant speed it up by having a higher priovery.

I had an Essex class (YorktownII) with 35% float at Sydney; gave up and sailed her all the way back to San Diego where I was equally unsatisfied; she now rests in the yards in LA. 110 days on critical! Well the entertainment is better...if I could only keep the enlisted out of zoot suits and at the pier.

Gaak. Yorktown may miss the invasion of Sumatra.

Admiral Lord SPrior...do you think I should send her to Colombo via the Westerly route across Northern Oz?

Sounds like we wont save that much time in a port bigger than Sydney.

Probably best to go to Sydney and keep JJ guessing.

Great pic - I love how she got the sun to silhouette the structure while highlighting the flag. Did she use some kind of filter to prevent overexposure/light washout of the image?

I would reckon something like 45 days to two months.

Nice picture. If you're interested, I've posted a number of images from the Midway and her museum (SBD, Corsair on her hangar deck) on my "Images from San Diego" thread on the main AE subforum.

No..no filter or image manipulation..just JPG conversion. The lookout platform was blocking the direct sun to the lens but the flag was still being transilluminated and there was a tremendous blue sky with a good breeze.

100's of sailboats in the bay..just beautiful.

Yes, saw them. Enjoyed the pics. Very, very cool museum. Manequins were a bit creepy, though.

The CIC had authentic maps from GW1.

Not sure it means anything - looks like the guy who hoisted the signal flags had Swedish heritage in mind ... [gold/blue predominance]
EDIT: and judging by the three top flags with the St. Andrew's Cross on them, there was a Scot in the crew as well!

choking on third. I saw an article in Nat Geo long ago about the A-Tests, as dad was there I took particular interest of course. They actually ordered guys in shorts etc. to go walk around on the target ships. They had livestock chained up at various places, very gruesome. But they did give the guys thirty days liberty on Bikini with ice cream to before they nuked it and gave a bunch of sailors permanant tans. I doubt many of those guys are left. My dad was on a destroyer, might have been the Newman K. Perry, at the time. I have to check with him as he was transfered several times in 1944 starting out on the victory ship Cape Chalmers as a signalman. Anyway, I wish I had three nuts. Could have used the spare.

I think I remember enough 'signal flag' interpretation to get this. You're right, Cap'n..., there is a Scottish influence!

It reads, "Can you loan me 5 bob until next Tuesday? For I've got a post comin' in and I can pay you back then..."
