so it is being assesed how to build the best fighter training program

seems that the most i can train fighter pilots up to is 40 exp and 70 air skill

so will this be a good process to improve that?

1) train escort to 40 exp 70 air

2) train strafe to 70 defence skill

3) use fighters on ground attack against chinese guerillas until 70 exp

trying to build an armada of 70 exp , 70 air, 70 defence pilots

... all the while avoiding battle with the allied fighters to deprive them exp gain

also do you recommend to put the 81+ exp elite pilots into

1) TRACOM,
2) make them elite training commanders (high inspiration = faster training?) ,
3) use them as frontline squadron commanders (high air skill = better results),
4) or keep them as an elite mass and equip them with the best designs

You want to put as many eligible pilots into TRACOM as possible. The more you have there the faster you push out experienced recruits to fill up your training squadrons.

As Japan it's essential to pull those recruit pilots out earlier to reduce HI costs.

It's always good to mix some of the 81+ guys in with your squadrons, and it's also good to fill out a squadron with "elite" pilots if the aircraft are your latest and greatest. An early Allied tactic is to gather as many P-38s as possible (by "upgrading" stateside P-38s over to other types of fighters) and then filling that squadron with the cream of the USAAF crop. They'll wreak havoc on an uprepared Japan.

You want to be careful with your elite pre-war KB pilots as Japan, especially the bomber pilots. These guys are nearly irreplacable. If using the KB as mostly to support operations against enemy ground troops, I'd even go as far as to suggest sending most of the really good bomber pilots to TRACOM and filling the KB with 60-70 skill pilots instead, against gorund targets the skills aren't nearly as critical as when trying to sink enemy warships.

I would use LowNav or LowGround (depending of future use) instead of Strafing. Bombs hurt, plane guns don't.
No idea of TRACOM for japanese players, but its not usefull for allied players. If i remember right, most japanese players use TRACOM to store their elite pilots till later.

TLG is right on the button with this one for the Japanese btbw.

well my idea is to TRAIN on strafe - ( to increase DEF skill )

then run operational sorties against backwater guerillas using Ground B (to increase EXP)

Another thought ....

for those fighter airframes that carry a decent payload (like a Corsair) they can be an effective weapon against merchant ships nd other smaller crafts. When in that mode, they use the Strafing skill for their bomb load.

If you set them to 100' and ANY mission they will increase Straf and DEF skill and a bit of XP. So, for the price of one mission you can get Straf (for ground or naval), DEF and a bit of XP. Once my fighters have an AIR skill of 70 (XP seems to be like 45 or so), I switch to 100' Escort and work on their, STRAF, DEF and XP, brining DEF/STRAF skills to like 60 or so. Seems like XP is about 55 or so. They tehen find a little spot for backwater action to get the XP the rest of the way to 70+

LowNavB should be for LBAs only, I would think.

You don't need to attack anything to gain experience, just fly CAP.

true, what i usually do is have few squadrons training only escort up to 70, few squadrons only sweep 100feet (up to 70 ex) and few on cap away first lines (up to 75ex, you ll need 120 missions for that or 3 months).

in my first game I was so intent on keeping my best pilots on the carriers, that the IJNA sent no one to TRACOM, the Army Air was flying crappy planes anyways so I sent a few of them off to teach. About a year latter I realized army air school graduates were starting with an approximate exp 35-40 and my navy air was 20-25. It takes forever running training missions to go from 20 to 50 let me tell you.

Now my policy about a fifth of my groups are running training missions (home Island and Manchuria) I fill those all the way up to 150% of capacity so as not to have to watch for operational loses, ( I do keep a veteran or two in each of these groups) when the overall exp is 50-55 they go to the reserves to fill out the combat groups.

And then I aggressively send off the elite pilots to TRACOM.
Interesting fact IJNA pretty much only sends fighter pilots off to teach but they seem to teach the other categories just as well.
