It seems that on map training units train their new pilots up to snuff faster if you throw in some TRACOM pilots to help out - am I correct in thinking this? Has anybody done any comparison as to whether this is a better use of TRACOM or whether a better use is to get your pilot replacements moved through faster?

I have not seen a difference in the rate of training when a good pilot is in the squadron. I have seen an increased rate when the Commander has a high Leadership rating.

I've noticed a difference in training speed once the pilots exceed 50 Exp. If you wish to train pilots beyond that point, TRACOM pilots tossed into that squadron does help from my experience.

I have no quantifiable data to support this, but I have noticed significant differences with training speeds if the "squadron experience" level is higher than most pilots in the squadron which is easily achieved by placing a handfull of TRACOMs into it.

Better yet to put them in squadrons near but out of the action. They will gain exp faster by flying milk runs, search or CAP than training once 50 is reached.

IME, a sqn trains best when nearly all its pilots have similar EXP levels. when a fighter sqn has trained its AIR skill into the high 60's - you have 2 options:
- change role from Training to Escort, switch to 50% CAP & 50% TRN, keep rng=0 & alt=5k', you'll get add'l EXP gain as well as AIR gain, or
- if the DEF skill is 10 or more pts lower than the AIR skill, switch 100% Training to Sweep instead of Escort, rng=0 & alt=100' - your guys will train in Strafing but also increase their DEF skill.

i get good results w/ 1st option for fighter sqns, but not w/ bomber or patrol sqns.

the sqn commander needs high Insp (keeps Morale high) & Ldrship (helps EXP gain).
