Speedy, you need to flat out run down south. And in the center for that matter, the entire Dnepr line is untenable. Trying to hold on to this entire area much past turn 5 is asking for trouble.

You didn't reinforce Leningrad enough for my way of thinking and should have piled on the reserve armies near Pskov on turns 1-2. Now it is too late. Leningrad is a goner in all likelihood, but you can at least hold the Volkhov and keep the Finns contained up north.

I hardly bother defending around Smolensk nowadays, my emphasis is up north. The first real line of resistance in the center is Rzhev-Vyazma-Bryansk, fleshed out with cadres.

I like the garrison in Odessa. He's going to have to send a full German infantry corps, minimum, to clean that out.

In the Crimea, there's only two points worth defending: Sevastopol and the Kerch straits. I positively welcome Axis forces diverted into the peninsula. So I wouldn't bother defending the entry points.

Thanks guys.

Some good points in here. I'm already moving from the Dnepr line as the break out from Dnepro and near Bryansk is just too risky.

LG is definitely a goner and I've known that for 2 turns now so not sent a lot more up there.

I'll keep you posted as the rest of the turn pans out.

Welcome the discussion

I still feel I've not done awful here just that Saper is one of the best players. Maybe I'm biaised though

He's obviously very good. He's wrecking Kamil in that game.

LG after my moves.

As an aside has anyone found the lowest level HI can be before you face supply problems?

I'm thinking that if you can get out around 10 HI from points west of Moscow-Voronezh-Rostov that this is enough to get by.

You shouldn't lose any industry of any type from that point east. I definitely evacuate any HI in those cities and anywhere else east of that. I even empty out Stalingrad over the first winter. Just pile all the industry on the eastern edge of the map by summer of 42 and forget about it.

That position south of lake Ilmen isn't gonna hold btw, you need way more than that.

I, with some luck, managed to temporarily rescue my pocketed units...they'll be re-swamped next week though....oh what I'd do for Mud in the Soviet Centre Zone.

Started forming the final Moscow Defence zone with the 29th Army SW of Moscow.

A lot of the other guys have covered things fairly well. I will toss in a few observations that are particular to this game vs most 41 Russian games these days.

You have been attacking here and there and have been getting good success. Check your Odessa guys. If you have some that are 3-0, 4-0 for a record, consider pulling them out and replacing them with some fresh guys. Check some of your other guys who have been winning. Why? You want to get those with good combat records sort of into a pool for your winter counter offensive and possible guards unit formation. Hard to do that with units with a 2-12 record.

Something else to look at in areas like Leningrad is to pull your high moral divisions and replace them with new trash. You want to delay him there long enough so he can't redeploy PG4 for an attack on Moscow before mud. If he does, you will most likely lose Moscow as well. Either way, you want to try to save some of your good moral divisions if you can.

Hang in there.

Thanks Klydon - yup I keep an eye on my units for victories. Ideally I'd like to pull some of the better ones in a months time and prep them.

Walloc - good point. I doubt I'll hold it that long though

Desperate attacks by 13th and 20th Armies temporarily rescue my trapped men.

I'm aware that Saper will most likely swallow up more men next turn in the pocket but it does keep him occupied for another turn AND I have a lot of industry in the area I need to evac!

Furious battles down here. An inital attack against 16th Motorised Div (blue circle) failed but a secondary attack against 14th Panzer (red circle) succeeded. Temproary respite once more....Once more can't run so much as have industry to evac and I need to buy 2-3 turns for Stalino region and starting to evac here...let alone Moscow

God I need some of this 'Pelton Lord of the Rings rain weather' down in the Soviet Sentral Zone
