That was what I was going to pick. I have a 1/144 H8K2 die-cast at my desk.

I could also go with the P1Y Ginga 'Fances'. American, that would have to be the Hellcat or the B-24.

Bearcat. Just about the Nth development of the prop fighter which showed how ready naval air was for jets. I got to crawl all over one when I was a kid (Armed Froces Day air show) and Ill never forget how it pulsed with sheer power and musculature. Truly a beast.

Ilyushin-2 Sturmovik. Too bad you have to wait until the Soviet Union enters the war to play with 'em.

Wow that is a tough question. Since you said favorite I base that off of looks. So the Emily and Sunderland are my favorites along with the A20, F4U, B-25 and B-24.

The B-25 is my favorite, in all of her variants. A modern medium bomber the the allies get early war. And then the skip bombing........ :D

The A-20 and B-25 "gunships". Too bad the game does such a poor job of modeling their use. Between the massed forward-firing .50 cals. and the skip-bombing technique they pretty well spelled the end of all Japanese naval activity within their range.

Ki-44 and F8F are my favourite radial fighters probably, designed for rock climbing

large engine and tiny wings.. like a plane from a cartoon , some nice footage of F8F at airshows.. it keeps going up and up and up .. 5,000 ft/min

For performance, the A-26 Invader.. That thing ended up being able to carry 2x the specified ordinance and fought all the way through the Vietnam war.

Go to Spooky's old WitP site at http://mathubert.free.fr
A fantastic free site with loads of sound files and alternative loading screens etc.

Scroll down to the heading marked 03/06/05 & and it will say 'A new OpenLoad screen by Matto with a preview here.'

Just download the zip and unzip directly into your Art folder making sure you back up the original files somewhere.

The new file must be entitled exactly the same as the one you are replacing ie. OpenLoadScreen_1024

There are loads of sounds files there also, many are a distinct improvement on the originals.

Large Naval Guns at 09/18/04 is particularly good, as is the Mayday, and many aircraft and bombardment sound files.

*A word of caution:- This site was set up for the original WitP.
Sound files and loading screen files etc are interchangeable with AE, but do not go anywhere near the map alterations/ plane art / ship art etc.
Most, if not all of these are not compatible with AE.*

Always back your files up when 'pimping' your version of AE

Enjoy!!

I'll vote for the C-47, but I've always been partial to transports. I'd have to think for a while about fighting planes.

Its slow, its unarmed - it wasn't prepared for War, but still the men who flew it gave their lives. Nothing but respect for the Douglas TBD "Devastator".
Oh and its one of the ugliest birds I've seen.
