I know that most of you prefer sprites, I don't like it (too childish ?) and sometimes I get confused.
I started this project because the game it's great and I'm an old school nostalgic wargamer.
There's a lot of work to do, so if anyone wants to help I'll share my psd files to speed up the project.

That's how it looks

I'm one of those players who prefer the childish graphics.
But your NATO counters are looking very good. Are you planning to use different colours for different nations?
Thanks for all your efforts.

this first series of counters (created so far) is specific for all units belonging to "Ardennes" scenario.

I don't want to sound to nitpicking but wouldn't it look better, if you used a capital letter on the first letter (for example "Tank" instead of "tank")?

Brilliant work
keep it all lower case, not Sentence Case.
Looking very 70's retro.
Great font selection.
I hate sprites too.

Nice, if it is a wargame it needs NATO symbols for me

If it was me (which it isn't) I would actually not have the tank, infantry, truck written on the counter, the NATO symbol already tells us this information and without the written descriptor you could maker the symbol a bit bigger as well. If keeping the written descriptor I'd go for capital first letter.

my fault, I don't realize it.

this is true for most of you, maybe a bigger symbol is preferable to a group name or the unit model (es. bigger "Panzer" and lower IIIG, but I was inspired by this counters (see attached image).

There's a lot of work, 440 and more units to mod, my work so far took three hours and half.
So I decided to start with this project than make changes (that could make happy someone) while playing.

Couldn't you use the same type of letter in the second line like in the counters which you were inspired with?
Or you think it looks too much cluttered?

Personally, I think it looks much better, graphically speaking.

Very nice, though I still think the unit type (Recon in this instance)doesn't add to the utility of the counters and isn't needed. Also it is somewhat inconsistent, cavalry/kavallerie is labled as Infantry (post 3) and rather than Tank/Armour/Panzerkampfwagen (i.e unit type) Panzer/Panther/Tiger (i.e unit sub-type/class) is used (post 10).

P.S. thought I recognised the World at War typeface, good choice.

You've got a point. Although that written information (recon, infantry, etc) could help those who aren't used to NATO symbols, but we've to remember that this counters will be mostly used by those who knows them. They would benefit from a bigger symbol if it's possible.
Anyway it certainly is looking nice.

I could agreed or not if unit type could be useful, visible or both. But it rely on the counters I choose at the beginning. There are some inconsistencies on unit types, the same categories appear in the purchase window, so if you want to buy more "kavallerie" click on the infantry button.

same as before, this type of counters has a limited space for Nato symbols, initially my personal idea was to put as much info as possible.

Now take a look at the picture below, some fonts must be changed (tank sub-type), colors could help in a zoom out view.
Drawing all german units took two days of hard work, changing a detail means to redraw and save all units again .
I wish to share my work with others, so this is the time where changes could be made.

Please share images, links or somewhat could be useful to make things look better.

Graphically speaking I prefer the original ones. But I understand the concerns rise by other members.

In this last picture I prefer option number 1. I know there's some redundant information with the class unit, but it's much better graphically balanced.
Maybe it could be a good compromise for the ones who want a larger symbol. I like it.
Thanks for all your efforts.

new beta with extra info (a lot of work for a single counter)

R = regular (Series)
3|4|1 = movement, soft att., hard attack
8 = ground defence

Like the look with the contrast stripe.

For the additional information on the counters the three digits below the icon could be soft attack, hard attack, defence (keeping combat stats together) with the digit to the left then being movement. However I must admit that I personally just consider the unit type, strength and the predicted combat results rather than examining the individual attack and defence strengths when planing an attack and with movement rely on the reachable hexes displayed when you click a unit so the additional info of these additional numbers on the counters don't really add much for me.

Overall of all of the above I prefer the original ones modified to have just the specific unit descriptor (e.g. Wehrmacht Infantry, Pz IVH(J))though to keep a consistent style remove the outer black rectangle from artillery etc. (post 18) to match with the armour and infantry.

Out of interest how are you going to display units when both land and air units are in the same hex?

Keep up the good work.

P.S. It is a lot easier to be a critic than an artist

Could somebody please tell me the name of the game on which these counters are based, the one with modern NATO forces facing Soviet forces across the Rhine?

What about the SE units? Black SS units would be nice.. I like this idea. I also prefer counters to sprites. Time of wraith counters much like yours are my favorites.
