1 DEC 42

Burma
Bombers attack AF. AF operational but it looks like /docup will try to cles them all.
Planing Air trap again in few days. This time 230 fighters will take part in it. Right now looking for pattern.

Burma have now 50k+ supplies.

Enemy crisuer TF sweep water south of Rangoon but my BB TF miss it.

China
First enemy raid from two weeks(when i shot down 30 enemy planes)
They attack troops in Ichang. 40 fighters in unplanned CAP (leaky cap) intercept
enemy. First two sweep waves of P40K and Hurricane IIc. I gaet 1:1 kill ratio. Nice.
Later 10 A-20A1 Havoc escorted by P-39D try to strafing attack. Again we intercept them shoting down one P-39 and one Havoc. No damage on ground

Docup must have done something wrong with setting because 16 unescorted Blenheim IV attack Hankow. We shutdown 12.

Japanese loses 7 fighters (4 pilots)

Malaya
E escorting tankers sunk on shallow waters SS Grunion

Timor
Koepang AF almost repaired. 3-4 days and 150 fighters will fly there.

This turn will be probably redone.
We upgraded to 1119 patch and it mess with ac bomb load. Half of my units start to fly with 15kg bombs

I do not know if that affected allied ac group but i suggested to Docup to downgrade to 1117e and replay 2 DEC turn again under old patch version.

Waiting for Docup decision but i think he will agree that best solution is to redone turn

EDIT
We decide to redo 2 DEC turn under 17e patch

Turn redone after bomb load bug introduced in 1119 patch. We back to 1117e and will stay on it for while.

Burma
Docup is bombarding Bases in North Burma
Today he miss and no damage make to base.
It looks like Docup is LCAP bases that he is bombing. I will not CAP but sweeping own base can be good chose. Usually he have 10 enemy fighters on LCAP - easy target for Tojos.

Marshals

I will soon try another landing on Marshals. Prabably Wotje first and Maoeloap later
I am keeping bases closed and bombing ennemy troops there.

Results are promising. This is how standarg bombing looks
Morning Air attack on 54th Coastal Artillery Regiment, at 135,115 (Wotje)

Weather in hex: Overcast

Raid detected at 69 NM, estimated altitude 8,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 21 minutes

Japanese aircraft
Ki-49-IIa Helen x 33

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-49-IIa Helen: 7 damaged

Allied ground losses:
40 casualties reported
Squads: 1 destroyed, 2 disabled
Non Combat: 3 destroyed, 15 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Guns lost 18 (8 destroyed, 10 disabled)
Vehicles lost 15 (2 destroyed, 13 disabled)

Bombardment of Maoelap looks like that also. I have two ID ready to land on those atolls. This time i will split them and only 2/3 will land id first wave and 1/3 of ID will be in reserve

China

I am bombing 3 chines ID on open East of Sian
they taking heavy loses every day losing 500 man/day. I am disabling also ~30 squads dayly
I will in few days rebuild 3 Tank Div in Hankow. Because i don`t have PP to buy them from China i will send them to fight in open fields east of Sian.

12 Oscars sweep Shaoyang. We find 11 P-39D. 7 planes shot down for 1 Oscar (pilot KIA)

Kongo
Tomorrow she will sail from Penope to Truk. Enegine damage repaired to 15. Flotation 58 and more repairs reguiering shipyard. Sys damage down to 49

28 ID
After disastrous landing in Wotje mont ago, division is taking replacments in Tokyo.
When they arrive to tokyo Toe was 23% and onlu 34 comabat squads in unit. Now it look much better. To speed up replacements ID is splinted

I send SC TF (2xCA,2xCL,2xDD) to intercept. Currently in Roi-Namur Hex

China
Ki-43Ic sweep Chungking. Few days earlier i saw there 20 fighters.

Now decision should be made. Move KB or Not. I do not think enemy will stay in are.
Decisions, that why i love that game.

Picture of day.
I have rebuild 2 Tank Div in Singer. Or something go wrong or it is very nice unit.
Look at Tank numbers almost everythin is dubble of TOE. When all Tanks going to be active unit will have 850AV 2,5 of normal Tank Div) I am not complaining but i think i will tell Docup abot that.

That sucks about the cruisers. Yuck.

Are your CVs in the area?

PS - I WANT that tank division! How did you do that?!

Thak sucks. I have KB two days on flank. But i decide to stay in port. Whay?
-Docup will not stay in area that long.
-If i fallow I will be probably forced to fight in close proximity of LBA from Johnston Island and that is now biggest denger for KB (4 allied CV, CVE and LBA making 1:1 in planes numbers)
-fuel is low (tanks on 100% but no reserve in Truk)
-I want to keep KB in shadows. This is probably biggest weapon Japan have right now. Lack of knowledge where KB is.

As for 2 Tank Div. It is probably bug. Because before rebuilding numbers of devices was like TOE. After rebuilt everything double. Best thing is that i get all those tanks and guns for free. No HI or devices poll used.

Burma
Another day of bombing in north Burma.
After last patch it is taking forever. Today 11 separate waves to watch.

China
Nothin major. But I do not know where 60 enemy fighters are. I reckoning ale major chines AF but so far nothing

Marshals
I think i have hart attack. Enemy CL intercept my amphibious TF. I must say i am lucky.
Only one ship sunk and ~1500 death. It could be much worst because a have two(2) ID (50k man) sailing to Kusie. CRuiser FT escorting those ships not manage to intercept enemy fleet.

Now they will split in small TFs and run toward Truk. All available combat ships in area will give support.

Night Time Surface Combat, near Kusaie Island at 122,117, Range 9,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
DD Hamakaze
DD Nowaki
DD Arare
DD Harukaze
DD Matsukaze, Shell hits 3, on fire
xAK Kokuryu Maru
xAK Kotohira Maru, Shell hits 1, on fire
xAK Tempei Maru
xAK Yae Maru
xAK Tamaki Maru
xAK Nittai Maru, Shell hits 1, on fire
xAK Kyokko Maru
xAK Hiyama Maru, Shell hits 3, on fire
xAK Teiryu Maru
xAK Teisen Maru
xAK Gosei Maru
xAK Igasa Maru
xAK Kiyozumi Maru
xAK Nojima Maru
xAK Shinwa Maru
xAK Zyuyo Maru, Shell hits 2, heavy fires, heavy damage (sunk later)
xAP Teiko Maru
xAP Montevideo Maru
xAP Ussuri Maru
xAP Ural Maru
xAP Baikal Maru, Shell hits 1, heavy fires (still on small fire)
xAP Tango Maru
xAP Kasado Maru
xAP Kowa Maru
xAP Teifu Maru
xAP Teika Maru
xAP Teison Maru
xAP Teibi Maru
xAP Teiritsu Maru

Allied Ships
CL Trenton
DD Bagley
DD Helm, Shell hits 7, heavy fires
DD Jarvis

Japanese ground losses:
976 casualties reported
Squads: 7 destroyed, 49 disabled
Non Combat: 16 destroyed, 78 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 3 disabled
Vehicles lost 11 (4 destroyed, 7 disabled)

Two DDs from last day battle manage to reach safe waters but they engage enemy destroyers at night.
Tanaka is to aggressive for escort duty i think
Night Time Surface Combat, near Maloelap at 147,117, Range 4,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
DD Naganami
DD Asashio, Shell hits 1, on fire

Allied Ships
DD Blue
DD Fanning

Both CLs damage during CV attack still on surface. Abukuma arrive to nearest port. Fire go down from 80 to 50. Maybe will survive. Second cruiser Isuzu cripled 200nm from port take serous damage from fires. Prabably will sunk tommarow.

8 Dec 42

Burma
Another day of Lashio bombing.

Koepang
P-38 sweep base. I have 80 fighters on CAP. We shot down 5 P-38 for lose of 9 Ki-44 and and 6 AM6. I must transport radar there to help CAP. (4 Japnais pilots KIA)

My plan is to force Docup to use P-38 to sweep and drain his pool of that plane. So far allies lost 104 P-38 of all types (60% A2A).
To protect island against naval bombardment cruisers are patroling waters around base.
Morning Air attack on Koepang , at 68,116

Weather in hex: Heavy cloud

Raid spotted at 23 NM, estimated altitude 34,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 5 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 24
A6M3a Zero x 24
Ki-44-IIa Tojo x 36

Allied aircraft
P-38F Lightning x 25

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 destroyed
A6M3a Zero: 3 destroyed
Ki-44-IIa Tojo: 5 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
P-38F Lightning: 1 destroyed

Subs sunk AK near Kendari. Bigest problem now is lack of escort ships. I cant escoer every TF on map

Marshals
Fleet returning to base. One of CA TF find DD Helm and damage it (Two 20cm hits). Later i heard sinking sound

Night Time Surface Combat, near Ponape at 122,116, Range 10,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
CA Haguro
DD Kuroshio
DD Urakaze

Allied Ships
DD Jarvis, Shell hits 2, on fire

Enemy CV are near Jonhston Island. I have rapport from subs that they where falowed by caeier based planes.

R&D
D4Y1 advance to 3/43

Enemy loses
CA Quincy, CA Minneapolis are reported as sunk. Hig probability that CA Minneapolis sunk after two TT hits but i do tot think that CA Quincy also sunk

We back to play.
In my entire live i never seen support like Michaelm is giving.

About enemy carrier.

I insisted map mod that make all TF icon have that same color and in first look i miss enemy CV TF

They are 450nm East of Johnston island
Intel is showing 4 CV and 15 ships. 130 fighters and 60 bombers.

No idea what Docup is doing. maybe covering some naval operation in Jonhston.
I very close to send Combined Fleet to investigate that.

Air loses are heavy for both sides but i think allies will suffer more. I can replace all loses in one day. He don`t.
17 Japanese pilots KIA today

So maybe the new patch isn't quite working yet? I haven't loaded it yet, but will do tests before we try it. We're back on the official patch now. At least you got a lot of bombers in that one.

I think patch is ok.
In that air battle Docup was using at lest 5 or 6 different AFs to send planes. Some of them are 5 hex from target and some 10 or 15.
He use 8 types of different plane models flying on different attitude (3k, 6k and 10k) so coordination was problem but not because of patch.

I do not known if anyone have that knowledge, but.

We are now in Dec 42 and i what to know what my fighter pilot reserve is looking comparing to other players
Table is showing all active pilots in combat and training units and pilots from reserve poll and TRACOM.

I think navy look ok but army situation is not best.
I am thinking about sending some 70+ pilots to reserve to safe them for later and replace them with low skilled pilots.

Tend to agree, you are pretty thin with Army pilots. No doubt reflecting your losses in Burma(?)

Thanks PaxMondo,

You are right, most of loses is taken during air war in Burma but also in China.

Situation is now better when Tojo is in service. Earlier i have big problems with P-39 sweeps. Oscar was losing 1:20 against them. Tojo is losing only 1:3,1:4, and because I have change tactic and now i fighting defensive war loses are relatively small. Mostly because i end with MIA pilots madness also more pilots is WIA and not KIA.

I also hoping that entering production of first armored army fighter in 20 days (Ki-44IIc) will reduce pilot loses little. (Or at lest not making them bigger when Corsairs arrive to combat units by end of January).
From January all army fighters, fighter-bombers and bombers produced will have armor.
Only China bombers (Ki-21) and some Oscars used as escort will not have it.

I lose so far 2500 pilots (1500KIA and 500 MIA and 500WIA) Those are high loses but we fighting aggressive war. Also at lest half of them are not army fighter pilots

Allies lose 4000 planes. Japan 4900. In A2A we lose 1300 planes each. That 900 planes different is in ground and ops loses. In most AAR those loses are showing up in spring of `43 and sometimes in summer of `43 and not in end of `42.

Also few months ago i have adjust training system. It allow me to speed up training process little. Right now i have net of specialized air units focusing is single skill. Most training Air(up to 68) some training Def(up to 60) after that most pilots have XP ~45. Those pilots are moved to two units flying 100% CAP. After two weeks they have XP 50 and Air skill is up to 70 and pilots is moved to reserve.

Losses are similar to what I have experienced. Not sure if that is good or bad.

Training regimen is also very similar to mine. Makes me feel better. Maybe my system isn't so bad after all.

That good to hear.

I am thinking about moving good pilots to reserve and replace them with rookies but not sure about that. That will build enemy pilots XP fast for cost of bigger losses on my side.
Having those good pilots later when Frank arrive will be good but will give me nothing if they going to face P-47 with 90XP pilots trained on my rookies today

One thing that feels consistent is that a balanced group with some 60-70exp pilots and some 50-60exp will do well for me. This is because the more exp pilots will survive more often, and the lower exp pilots that do survive will gain exp. If the group is all exp pilots then some of those will by default be lost. If they are all lower exp they will be suspect against good pilots.

For your training. I value defense now above most other categories. For me it's a few weeks at low nav or strafe training to get defense to 70 after training air skill, and this will also push exp to 50. I never 'train' with flying them on CAP. They'll get that training in the field soon enough.

Thanks,I never think about having all best pilots in one units like having all eggs in one basket. Having more spread XP in units should allow best pilots to have better survive rate. I will make those adjustments in next turn.

Another quiet turn

In Marshals Japanese sub sunk another xAK trying to unload supplies in Maoelap.
KB first time from weeks have 100% fuel in tanks and what is unusual 30k reserve in Truk.
65k more fuel will arrive in week.

In china Japanese bombers attack multiple targets around Sian. It was reckon mission to check what is there. Tomorrow i will rest my bombers and fighters they going to be needed in few days. We will have ground battle.

All fighter units move pilots. They have now full spreed of pilots. From 50 XP rookies to 70+ veterans. All 80+ pilots in Tracom.
Also training program will now focus more on training Def skill. Like Obvert say, soon it will be very useful skill.

Ki-44IIc advance to 2/43. In 12 days will advance to 1/43 and in 19 i will start producing it.
Now Question: How many planes i should produce in `43. Right now i am building 200 Tojos. If i should build more i can switch one or two R&D factories to production and if not i will convert all factories to research different planes.
