On a side note, wonder if they should teach history this way to our children, maybe just maybe this would get their attention?

And on top of that I had a discussion with one of my nephew's teachers at the hockey arena the other day and he insisted that the states in Australia were indeed countries and not provinces or states like here in Canada and the USA but sovereign nations within the Australian "island"??? I could not even believe what I was hearing from a Teacher just a little younger than me. I have 5 History/Geography/Language degrees and a forthcoming Masters degree and he said I needed to brush up on my international geography................I am this close on calling the school board and having him "examined" for incompetence???

Geez I should have asked him to check his Blackberry.......................so lame!

You think that's bad? How about my eldest a couple of years back in Year 5 at school being told about the First World War and how it started. Apparently, and I never realised this, Hitler invaded Poland......

Wasn't he a little young for that? I mean if 18 year olds 'invading' another country were outlawed, what about all the bar-going soccer fan exports of the UK?

Sorry warspite1, I don't get what you mean? Unless you mean that your eldest (your child I gather) thought that Hitler invaded Poland in WW1? Now if that is the case? is it he/she who misunderstood or the Teacher who was teaching bullcrap?

BTW: For us Canucks here, what is Year 5? or at least the age bracket for students in that school year.

Thanks a bunch.

Sorry if that was unclear. Her class was taught that Hitler's Germany invaded Poland to start World War I. Year 5 = 9 years old.

Well Golly!!! Hope the teacher also thought them that The Czar of Russia young son married the daughter of the Last Emperor of China and had Marco Polo as their best man???

Your kidding right? Come on, I would think that teachers especially in the UK as you are closer to all that has happened would know better but yet again on this day and age I have a teacher who claims that I need to brush up on my International Geography as New South Wales, Tasmania and Queensland etc... are countries and not states of Australia???? Holly crap the world if getting dumber by the minute???

An all too true story I'm afraid. Apparently she (the teacher) researched the story the night before on the internet. Makes you wonder doesn't it?

Wait a minute?

You mean this is recent?

You see my youngest is 18 so I figured you meant at least before the years of the Net? This makes it even worst in my opinion.

Maybe because I do tons of research for the political job I do, I ALWAYS check various sources, contacts and chat before typing anything or stating it is fact before I authorize to even publish something, translate it or even consider it for a campaign project, I never and I mean never trust the Internet for anything on the first search/try.

We have an awesome poster in here on the Civil War (150 years...) and I read it every single day, but because of the way I am I always am OCDed about having to verify some of the stuff he posts not because I don't trust what he posts (it actually always is), but because I need to know more of what he posted, dig deeper and it is via these extra searches that I learn and if a new search reveals something fishy? I search again not only the net but I head to the Library (yep like good old days) or I ask co-workers and friends and my dad's Legion buddies!

All and all what I am trying to say is that Teachers should know better than to look at the net and grab the first ting they see, or at least ask someone if you are unsure, you know there are still some of us with a little bit of brains out there???

On a side note, a friend of mine claims he read that Hitler only had one testicle.........I went WTF? Now I have a goal for the afternoon, to find the truth! What was the name of his Quack needle injection Doctor again, Morrell something???? Here I go again...........

"...On a side note, a friend of mine claims he read that Hitler only had one testicle..."

Yeah it's an old myth, you have to ask yourself why you should investigate things like that... not worth it IMHO.

Sigh.. Confession time...

I taught my twin girls that song when they were doing a skool project on WW2 in 1st year Secondary skool....

The morning assembly had a WW2 theme and the pupils were asked if anyone wanted to do a wee turn based on their project....

Sooooooo....

My little angels put their hands up.... walked up to the stage and sang....

My misses and I were called in to see the Deputy Head Teacher....

Cheers

Jev

Wodin,

Thanks so much for posting that FB thing. I had to walk out of the office because I was laughing too loud, too hard and too long.

Almost fell on the floor out of breath after reading about how many accounts were closed and the 'beach party...'

Thanks again!
