Might just be one of those periods where nothing satisfies and I can't see any game I want to boot up. It's not even like there is anything I haven't got I want to play either, though a few in development.

Can I be bothered to start a heavy Grand Start game like WW1 Gold...no.

Fancy concentrating on a realtime game like Achtung Panzer...not really.

Flight Sim...not in the mood. Also my cheap joystick has a dodgy axis so playing RoF for instance is a nightmare. Also OFF isn't installed and I lost the HITR expansion in the HD crash..sad face.

Operational game like Decisive Campaigns...to big..to heavy (now if it had more smaller linked campaigns..maybe)

Re do my Tigers Unleashed terrain mod that I lost in a HD crash..can't be bothered..and I can't play (beta test) it without it.

Command Ops BFTB...all the scenarios I haven't played are too big and a slug fest..(wish it had more smaller scenarios like COTA did).

CMx2 Normandy...would have to reisntall then put in all the mods again which I had lost in my HD crash..so not in the mood. Plus...yawn..Normandy.

AJE...after a brief moment of wanting a ancient game that moment has passed..so I've lost interest. Also the lack of historical knowledge doesn't help.

CK2..hmmm Steam. My big issue with steam is me and my daughter share the same account so when she is on it I can't go on it..which is a pain. Would be cool if they let you separate the account into two and divide the games up..not sure if they do that though. CK2 I would try though..maybe.

Try out Next war Korea or Bloody April air war over Arras I got from GMT hardship run..need to use VASSAL..need to have my thinking cap on..so..no. (I will say I was shocked at the contents of Bloody April..amazing..so much in that massive box. I will get into it but not at the minute).

I hate times like these..I have an itch..but know idea what it is I need to scratch it..

When those times hit me, i go play a game with the kids. It's either a board game or a ps3 game. They aren't into wargames, frozen synapse was the closest i could get them to any strategy game.
It will pass, it always does.

If it hits me, and it does sometimes I read or just get away from the games for a few hours or days.  It seems like its the same stuff over and over and its doesn't itch the itch.

Play a shooter meanwhile ;) Just shoot stuff without sence. Planetside2 (Free to play) or something else-- >

After some weeks or months you will go back to the strategy games. Happens to me once every year as well.

I find playing Norbsofts Scorge of War (any of that series) or 2nd Manassas from Mad Minute scratch that itch of wanting to play something but wanting something LITE so I just play a brigade or detachment and let the ai lead the battle and I just follow along and help save the day with my brigade. I find this a lot of fun and not stressful keeping up with just a small number of men but running sometimes all over the battlefield to help save the day. Talk about the stories one can have and makeup from this type of play. 2nd Manassas was good for this most of all.

I will second the Scourge of War games. You can fight 90% of the scenarios in about an hour and be highly entertained in that hour. But I am a newb at the game, just got it the other day, and still trying to master controlling a Div.

Not sure why and some of the games I would list are different but I feel the same way! and it's really annoying me.

When I feel this way I do things that I am putting off. Just so the energy isn't wasted. So I will clean the house. Go through paperwork and mail.
Exercise.............. I just generally try to get something out of that somewhat negative feeling of inertia.

That is what World of Tanks is great for. Nothing like shooting up some tanks imo

One of the reasons behind this feeling comes from the "I own too many games" syndrome or "I own too many great games" syndrome. I myself own hundreds of games now since the 80's possibly even into the thousand range. When you have that many games it does make it hard to make a decision of which game to play because in those 30 years you can bet there's been a lot of "great" games in those years. So you are faced with what to play? Civilization? Master of Magic? Master of Orion, Battles of Napoleon, Ultima series? Panzer General? Perfect General? Panzer Corp? and the list just goes on an on an on up into present day. For those just starting out it's easy for you because you only have a handful of games to pick from. Wodin and I and I'm pretty sure several others here have hundreds to a thousand or better. I have these kinds of days nearly everyday now and that's just the home games library that's not even counting the numerous MMO's I have access too. It's really very hard sometimes to pick something out and stick to it like Wodin was talking about. I recently got Call of Heroes and haven't even installed it yet. I still have the origional Starcraft in shrink wrapped box as well as many others I bought but never played.

A little advice to you new comers. Don't fall into the trap of buying buying buying and only playing a little of each thing. Buy just one game, play it, finish it then buy another. These sales will come again an again in your lifetime and you'll save a lot of money buying this way. I bought so much so fast from Steam and Gamersgate there is nothing this year I want from either of them. It's like being addicted and there's no dope to satisfy me and probably Wodin too.

Yeah WOT can be fun, if you're in a team that play together. With some kind of tactic. But in a team with children who rush of into death, scouts who battle it out with heavies, arty that forgets to shoot and hides behind buildings or hills. Then a battle is short lived, having a few of those in a row is quite frustrating.

Otherwise it is a fun game.

Totally agree, if only I could put it into practice.

The problem is that you know that the best game you own, the game that is going to get the most play, the game that will scratch that itch is the NEXT game you buy

What is wrong with scouts battling it out with heavies? That is how I got my all time highscore in terms of XP
The thing is to find either a goal, or a funtank to just have a go with.

When I get Wargame burnout I usually turn to Train Simulator 2013 or one of the ActionPC sports games. I like playing text based sports sims as much as wargames.

CK2 from Steam doesn't require steam to be running, as you can run it from outside steam.

I Recently returned to Darkwind after a year or two off and am enjoying re-learning the game. The big 15-20 cars on a side scout battles are simply amazing fun. They are rare but when you get in on one it is something to see. It's a great game to kill a few hours on and it has that "I can do just one more scout before sleep" appeal to it.

My only gripe is it's a java based game and the client has an annoying tendency to crash when switching between your internet browser (used to manage your gang and vehicles) and the game client. Other than that it is a great game and you can do race events and rent cars to go along on the scouts for free, so it's definitely worth a look. First time players should do the tutorial before anything else or you'll be totally lost.

When I cant face thinking about a game and just want some totally mindless fun for an hour whilst supping a beer, I'll get an old 'shoot em up' out; put all the settings on easy and just go and shoot a load of bad guys.

If I may recommend War of the Roses. A multiplayer medieval fighting game.
I've only ever played WOT before this one. It certainly is taking up my time. War of the roses and the new Xcom, which really IS good. Try it diehards. Its NOT original Xcom , but its still very good.

Alae Jacta Est has had a sum total of 1 hours play. Mainly because "the tutorial isn't much good so watch the 97 AARs on youtube and read 200 pages of notes in the forum..then you'll begin to get an inkling of a feeling of an idea of how to play."

Thanks for the advice. I could do that , after a long day at work.

Or I could grab my spiky mace and go charging across a ploughed field looking to bash someone's helmet visor in.

AJE has had about 2 hours max from me for the very same reasons.

After initial excitement I grew bored of XCom and never finished it.

I keep meaning to fire up APOS but haven't got passed the "meaning to" bit.

You could try something different... Over Flanders Field.
It's quite, quite good in recreating WW1 ambiance and it's very immersive. And the campaign is just... bloody marvellous and quite accurate.
It's a true WW1 tour de force, IMO.
