I was about to attack Paris, but found out that my artillery was without ammunition.

Obviously I have to purchase more ammunition production. It means an unfortunate, and perhaps decisive delay for the Western Front attack. Well, it's replacement time. Curses.

(This game definitely has "just one more turn" -feel to it, which always is a good sign. However I'll take a break now. )

Ouch!

That is still an impressive looking line for November, 1914. The Germans are entrenched along most of it as well. Is this an E-mail opponent or the AI?

The AI. I've been practising the first year moves quite a bit (read: obsessively) before this run. In one "test game" I even managed to capture Paris on this same turn, when arty had ammo left.

I found the ammunition bonus to not really worth the price (hear it costs quite a bit for just 1 ammo more per turn ) so yeah situation like this happens quite often :)

Yeah, I agree. It is so expensive that it just isn't worth it.

In the earlier stages of the game, it's not really worth it, you're right. But once stalemate develops in the west, he who has the most ammunition has a very big advantage.

That's very true. I like to raise it to the point where there is no more than one turn between firing.(at least)

Oh yes, I do know this feeling! However considering your position and those of the Entente, a one turn delay is not going to stop the inevitable; Paris is doomed, and during 1915 the rest of France as well as you will soon find out, if you haven't already. Meaning that unless the Eastern front has completely disintegrated, you've likely got this game in the bag.

Keke, I was thinking the same thing earlier today...just one more turn.

I guess this just tells people have very different ways of playing this game. I think the most important thing to do is to increase ammo production as much as you can. I am usually willing to lose little ground and tend to build my army very little the first few turns just to increase my ammo production.

Arty Ammo should be scarce throughout '14 and 15...infact it should be something that is a massive limit on what forces can achieve in this first year..also any attack once trenches hit should be proceeded by several turns of saving up enough ammo...Supply both keeping up an offensive and even starting one should always be a concern in WW1...at least until '18

Well this is so far I think the only way to play, give in some territory at start, build slow, keep reserve PP and not build too many ammo consuming units. But I don't think it's worth to increase production more than 2-3 upgrades per country in the current setting.

I guess I disagree. Having enough ammo to fire one or more artillery every or almost every turn is a serious grind of pp and manpower on the enemy. I regularly try to gain at the very least minimum 10 ammo production per nation. Especially in multiplayer artillery and as high ammo production as possible is very vital.

Why would it not be worth it? You make the enemy bleed for very little upkeep or manpower cost for yourself.

I couldn't figure out why I had so little Artillery ammo; then realized that BB's also use Artillery shells.... I was having fun harrassing coastal garrisons and convoys; now I must be more careful
