I realize it's no secret that interdiction is substantially underpowered in the game and doesn't cause much damage (seemingly no matter how many bombers per attack), but does it have any other value? Do the many strikes that cause 0 casualties still reduce MPs or supply or anything like that, or at the end of the day are you just wasting flights and planes (that could be valuable on other missions) for nothing?

You're talking about damage to ground troops? This I cannot answer, but it raises one question: how to best interdict enemy strikes. Recently some veteran/expert mentioned to set interdiction level to 300%!! It's amazing what it does (german view) in GCs even until 43-44. So whether or not enemy interdiction flights are effective, it may be costly too.

It's got so little going for it that I turn it off. It's a waste of equipment.
Hopefully future games will have targeted interdiction, with serious hindrance of movement in the targeted areas when the non phasing player has air superiority. If this happens I'd like to have the option for night movement to avoid interdiction but with halved MPs or thereabouts.
Another couple of small things about interdiction I'd like to see altered.
1. The identity of the unit being attacked shouldn't show up on the combat report.
2. Interdiction should be less likely in non open terrain.

Yeah, I think I am going to do this as well. Goes a long way in explaining why I don't seem to have fighters left for much else afterward and not sure I have accomplished anything despite thousands of "hits."

Unless of course, someone knows of any beneficial byproduct that doesn't show up on topline results.

+1.

Because even SUs that participate in ground combat are displayed. So there is no reason to deny this information in air combat.

Interdiction can reduce enemy mp's during movement. This doesn't always happen but I've witness it happen to me in my current game. I think it causes loss of morale and fatigue and damage equipment too.

I do notice as the Soviet losing MPs on an interdiction strike, I just wasn't clear as to what determines whether or not such a loss is caused. Doesn't seem to be any way to figure out if your strikes are having a meaningful effect in this way or not.

In my current game as the Soviet against German AI, I set interdiction to 300 just to see what would happen and only had one strike, albeit it is Jan '42. I believe the manual states that interdiction can cause an MP reduction and trigger morale loss roll, plus can damage and destroy ground elements and cause a reduction in experience. These losses can impact the unit's MP further.

I have had Soviet units lose almost half their mps to interdiction. As the 'expert' referred to above, I said to put the Interception to 300%, I really have not played too much with the other settings (other than % to fly).

I do know there is a direct link between recon flights and areas that interdiction missions will be flown.

Yes, the manual also states that interdiction is dependent upon the detection level.
