Hi,
Im a little bit confused.
What is the purpose of these ships?
Are both CS and AV able to send missions? Any kind of mission or only search?
Are they only plane-transports?
How should I use them (I dont really know what to do with them if they cannot fly missions)!!
Thanks!

Lots of new people on the boards. Glad you're enjoying UV with the rest of us. I'm glad to answer your question, but I'm also going to recommned that you use the green "search" button to the right of the Matrix log. Search for AV or CS and I'm sure you'll come up with exactly what I'm about to say.

CS - These are float-plane carriers.
AV - These are sea-plane tenders.

AVs do NOT carry sea-planes (like PBYs or Mavis) or any type of aircraft. Basically, you park them on a beach somewhere, and support the aircraft. To create a sea-plane base :
1. Find a friendly beach (a red or green dot, depending on your side). It can be a "level 0" airfield, that's what the tender is for.
2. You can either send a cargo ship to dump some supplies on the beach (you actually only need 100-200), or have one of your sea-planes air-drop supplies onto the beach via a supply transport mission. Air-dropping the supplies is the better wasy to go, because it's less conspicuous than sending a ship there (and you might lose the ship to enemy action, whereas there's really no risk of losing the plane).
3. You send your AV to the beach. Don't forget the keg and volley-ball net.
4. Transfer your PBY squadron to the beach.

And now you have a seaplane base.

The CS ships can actually tote around float planes (Rufes, Alf, Jakes) and act like an aircraft carrier for float planes.

You can also park an AV at a major AF if you have seaplanes there, as they will support the seaplanes, and ease the load on the groundcrews so they can work on fun stuff like fighters and bombers.

I believe that Japanese AVs (as well as CS) have their own float planes while US ones don't. They tend to be very useful vessels for the Japanese as their squadrons can be used for ASW or Search missions without using more valuable and limited Mavis and Emily squadrens. They are also not so valuable that you mind losing them so they can be used in more forward areas where you may not wish to risk other search units.

As the US ones have no organic sea planes you need to use the limited Catalina squadrons (or float planes from ships). I use these less as sea plane bases and often in fast transport TFs. I have had many sunk to Japanese surface units when I have tried to use them as forward sea plane bases and in rear areas you rarely need their support.
