China

Sian area

Koniu is sending troops to cut Sian's road in the north. I will send troops to try and open this route, once he has entered the hex. I am thinking of sending in a small tank Bn into China.

The rest of China is stable. Chinese pilots are doing pretty well with training. I might be able to pull out a few US fighter squadrons in the near future. I have 1 Corp upgrading at Calcutta with 2 more on the way. One Corp is almost maxed out and will stay in China.

Burma/India

I will start to send troops into the hex SE of Akyab and start an attritional battle with the Japs stationed there. I want Koniu to keep LRCAPing this hex, so I can sweep him to death. If he dosen't I'll just bomb his troops from the air. I will start doing naval bombarding also. If he puts subs in the shallow waters, then I will eat them with my ASW TF's. I think once he see's what I am doing he will pull his troops back down the coast.

I do have plans for the plains area. I need to crush Mandalay first. The Jap AF is to strong for me right now. So I will be patient and wait.

Burma
Troops are marching south of Akyab to greet the stack of Jap LCU's.   We bombed them again today.  2 ID's SNLF and an arty unit are waiting for us.  350 fighters are presnt in Burma.  170 at Mandalay 180 or so at Rangoon.  I expect a CAP trap over this stack tomorrow.  I will stop bombing and send in the fighters.  I am basing everything out of Cox bazar.  I am waiting for sweeps and bombers.  Fighters are ready.  Another LB is sunk south of Rangoon.

Coco's
Bombed

There will be some excitment soon.  I promise

Speaking of popcorn.  I just watched Expendables 2.  Yes, the fight scenes where over the top ridiculous.  But the one liners where great.  Good movie overall.  Just don't expect realism just go in expecting to see a bunch of old action stars having a good time.

Looks like the Jap units are withdrawing from the hex south of Akyab.

Lots of clicks today.

Truk
The only action was here.  We sink 2 xAKL's and put a TT into CA Aoba.  Last report had it on fire 2 hex's away from Truk with some PB's.  I don't understand that TF composition.

Burma
We have entered the Jap occupied hex south of Akyab.

Norm:  Aoba was clean of any hits from me.  It was actually heading away from Truk.  Might of been a flagship of a transport TF or something.

28th Jan

No intel on any carriers.  I will probably have some in a few days.

Terapo
Zeros sweep and knock down 11 P39s and 7 Spit Vc's. Atleast 4 zeros were shot down maybe up to 9.

I will post more on the upcoming op when the time is right.

No intel on carriers.

China
Bombed.

Akyab
I send bombers with escorts to bomb the stack just south.  Heavy Jap CAP is present.  We lose 20 B 25's, 19 Wellingtons, 16 Beaufighters.  1 group of P38s sweep after the Bombers get crushed.  They do exact some revenge.  10 Tojo IIc's, 8 IIa's, 5 A6m5, 3 Oscars are shot down for 2 P38s.  I am able to replace the loses.  But I will start sweeping more.  If he wants to LRCAP I will sweep him to death.  I will have some Corsairs in theater soon.

Mandalay
We night bomb the AF and score 1 Tojo IIc's, 2 IIa's, and an Oscar.  It looks like low level night bombing might just work.  I will have to try more of this.

Points just jumped up 41 points.  Hmm did CA Aoba just sink.  She is worth 41 points, I checked it out.

Koniu wrote in a email.  That we are playing a cat and mouse game. Just he didn't know who was which.  So he is up to something. Thats fine, So am I.

I figure 2 days and my surprise will be up.  I am prepareing a briefing for all my Air, Naval, Ground, and Sub commanders.  Are any of you present for maps of the operations?

I would love to see the naval maps - assuming your coming surprise involves some ocean crossing moves. Your summary AAR gives enough to get an idea what is going on but once in a while a map gives the bigger overall picture - sort of a summary of summaries.

Take a look at Tracker. Although the combination of air/ship losses cause variations in points, also bases building airbases/port levels and getting/losing supply causes fluctuations in points. The most insidious point movements coming from bases dropping to supply levels below needed. One piece of information is the number of bases stay the same but the total base points decrease .. a sure sign that supply is affected somewhere ...

As an AFB, this in one metric for measuring the effectiveness of strategic submarine warfare ...

Just my .02 ..

I have heard that when you're done seeing that movie, you want to punch the first person you see outside of the theatre.

Jeffk:  I didn't feel that way but I watched it at home with my dad.

30th Jan

No inel on carriers.

China
Our stack of Chinese units retreating from Yenan were attacked again today.  I am trying to get Koniu to destroy these units so they can come back stronger.

Akyab
ASW TF of Brit ML's attack and sink I 153 18 hits she surfaces and slips beneath the waves.

Mandalay
Hudsons go in without permission and escort 6 are lost.

Our invasion force is sighted, Bombers are a go on their bombing missions.  We got 3 more days to go before the troops hit the beaches.  I expect the KB to show up in 2 days.  This is going to be tight.  I hope I calculated everything right for a one day drop off.

No takers on were I'm going.

I read so many AARs I cannot remember what your progress is in the Solomons and areas southeast or there, or if you have Port Moresby, so I am going to split the difference and say Woodlark Island!

BBfanboy: Your close Milne Bay and Tagula Island

This is the Bomber map. Highlighted are the bases I plan on hitting.

Intel
Around 30 Bombers believed to be Bettys have been seen at Lae or Buna. 50 A6m5 Zeros have been at Buna AF. Buna is now empty. I believe they are now at Rabual.

I plan on taking out the AFs closest to MB and TI. I want to make his fighters to be based as far from my targets as possible. A6m5 has the longest range of any of his fighter 10 Hexs. I want to keep him that far or further if I can.

84 B24s, 69 B 17Es, 65 2 Es are present. Fighters are also but most don't have to range to do much. I need to close his AFs before he can bring in his figthers to provide escort.

Roi Namur still has the same number of planes as it did the day before. I don't think he's pulled any of these planes yet. Koepang still has the same about of figthers as it has in the past.

Only 3 TFs have been spotted a SAG and 2 ASW TFs. My CVs and Amphib TFs did not have any detection numbers.

Sub Maps

37 Subs are patroling between Truk and MB and TI. They all have either 1hex triangle or 3 by 3 hex patrol routes with max reaction. The best Nav search I can provide. I want to keep the KB atleast 8 hexs away from my landing zones. If he does try to come into range I want my subs to be able to react and get some shots at his CVs.

Grounds Forces

MB
US IR, Aus Inf BDE, Aus Combat Eng, Naval Port SVC unit, and Aus Tank unit. Aus Inf Div and another Tank unit are prepped if needed.

Intel on MB
One unit 600 or so men spotted on recon over a week ago.

TI
Aus Inf Inf Div, Aus Tank unit, Eng, Port SVC unit.

Intel
Last recon over a week ago showed no troops present. Not for sure I believe this. Recon before that showed 2 units SNLF and an AF BF present that was over a month ago. I have had Nav Search over the two targets and seen no ships.

If my caluclations are correct I should be able to land all troops in one turn.

Edit: Second wave is waiting for the area to be clear before going in. All combat units are upgraded to 43 devices.

Naval Map

3 CV's 3 CVE's with 236 fighters present and on 50% CAP Alt from 20K down to 2K. Small strike package on alert and Search.

I will have 1 or 2 small SAGs present in each hex of Amphib landing. Support ships AE, AKE, AOs are present close by to rearm and fuel ships as needed.

Looks like a solid plan!

Do you know where the KB is? Only 3 CVs for cover is certainly a little bit less then desired! I will keep my fingers crossed!

Good luck!

JocMeister:  I don't know, I figure it's at Truk.

31st Jan

No intel on carriers.

China
Bombed.  We opened the road to Sian.

Java
We miss a big tanker and get pounded.

NE Aus
Jap sub sinks and xAK. Another takes a shot at a SAG and takes 3 hits for it.

Buna
B24s run into some A6m3a's 50 or more of them.  12 B 24s are lost for 11 Zeros.  We do put some bombs on the runway thought.  I'm not for sure if I the damage estimate is right, if it is then its not good.

Shortlands
B 17s hit shortlands again damage report is less than what I saw in replay.

Canal
Is hit by 2 E's.  They hit this place hard but damage report is light.

Tagula
No units seen on recon.

Milne Bay
1 unit spotted with 500 men.

Rabual
93 Fighters, 166 Bombers, and 206 Aux.  What the hell would make up 206 Aux.  Damaged AC?

Lae
6 Aux spotted.

Plans

I think I am going to move my Tag force into position and hold back on my MB force.  Tag should be able to go in with more fighter cover drop off quicker and take the undefended base.  MB can wait out at see then go in after TI is done and take out this one unit.  Whats your thoughts?

Personally I would use Catalinas to fly in some av support to a couple of those allied controlled dot bases while another Cat squad flies over so you have a forward floatplane base.
KB can do ~15 hexes a turn at full speed if he brings the 25Kt CV's. You were spotted on the 30th? So I figure 2nd feb he could have CV's in strike range from Truk, of course this assumes that is where he was based. If its further away you should be able to get in and out in time.

With your subs I would concentrate them on the passages to either side of New Britan and not disperse them as much as you have. The CV's will likely be coming in hot and fast so interceptions are unlikely and your best shot is to have them 'run over' your submarines.

Good luck!

Saros:  Thanks for your suggestion. I had thought of that earlier and forgot it.  I will do it.

Updates

Tagula
It has an AF of 2.  I think if I can get it up and running I can provide some LBCAP for my MB invasion.

Also Koinu has pulled AC from Roi Namur and Java.

Burma
Fighters are based out of Magwe and Mandalay.
