Hello, and especial hello to fcharton. Working on China OOB and have this provisional tank group come up. And slogging through the sources it looks like a HQ for some tank Bns that were Chinese/American that got absorbed into the Kuomintang forces.

It was a HQ formed at Ramgarh, India in September, 1943 to control some (4-6?) Chinese tank bns in training for Chiang. The American sources say there were six Bns organized as '42-type Lt Tank Bns. Have thier OOB, but am not sure where they should come in or who they should belong to.

Ramgarh is not a base on the map. It is halfway between Patna and Allahabad. I don't want to add a base because this is a stock AI based scenario. So is Patna OK as a stand-in for Ramgarh?

I am splitting the provisional tank group into 4 of the 6 Chinese Bns. But should I make them Chinese, or keep them as US Army? The world wonders.

Sam

I checked the issue several months ago, so I can not remember correctly, but:
US send exactly 100 tanks (M3?) for Chinese forces. And not anything more (lend-lease documents shows only 100 tanks delivered, but they do not include inter-theatre transfers, so anything more would go from US units already in India), so that would include replacements. More like 1 battalion (or maybe up to 2). They were fighting in Burma.

Also, I am not sure US had anything to do with training Chinese units in India, except delivering equipment (in many cases British). The unit was surely Chinese, but if you want to change it, I would opt for Commonwealth.

Great!! I have Shelby Stanton, too. And JWE got me a logon to Fort Hood that has some more references. From your sources, it looks like only the 1st and 2nd Battalions ever got operational, and they should be Chinese. In terms of the game, I don't think it's worthwhile to split out the US tank platoon anyway.

Nice to see that Fort Hood had it right and they were on the Lt tank establishment and got M4s as like pieces of parts after the 9/43 TO.

Thanks a lot.
