I'm a newbie and haven't yet read the manual, so please forgive meif this is blatantly stupid.

I've noticed that often I am provided a button to return a ship to its home port (on the map). However, even when damaged, there doesn't seem to be any opportunity to return a ship (or TF) to Japan/Pearl. All I see at the bottom of the orders screen is the above-mentioned button to return to a local port with the accompanying text "Return to xxxx" and another field that says "Return to" that is grayed out and has no button anywhere near it.

=> How can I send ships back to Japan / Pearl? Is there some criterion that must first be satisfied before that 'function' is offered?

Hello,

You need to be in Truk, or Noumea.

I believe that for the Japanese, the ship must be docked in Truk before you can send it to Tokyo( and not in a TF) and for the Allies you must be docked in Noumea. You then click on the ships in port and choose the ship to send back.

Okay, this still isn't working....

I had CLAA Atlanta with 20+ systems damage and 11 floatation damage in the intro scenario.....I sent the TF she was in back to Noumea.

Once there, was not given the opportunity to send TF back to Pearl....tried to disband TF and send just Atlanta back....still no opportunity......tried undocking from Noumea.....same lack of opportunity.

Is there some damage threshold necessary?

You can only send ships to Pearl or Truk for repair in the longer scenarios. Try loading up one of the monster ones and look at the ships in port there - the button should work then.

In the shorter scenarios there is simply not enough time for a ship to reach Pearl or Truk or a replacement to be sent from them to reach the front line, so you don't have the option.
