OK, I'm back. Sorry about the insurrection. I just went out to breakfast and when I come back it's like a Mayan calender party. They picked my Anaheim pepper plant bare and the Tequila is gone. The Tapatio is gone too.

The leaves just turned colors here recently. Because of the climate, most of the native trees don't have a fall show so landscapers have to plant specimen trees to get that effect. One of the gated communities around here has a beautiful dispaly of brilliant orange and red crepe myrtle. I think they put up the gate to keep the Mayans out but they forgot to tell the Aztecs about the fall color thing. So there is this crew out there, presumably being paid by the HOA, chopping off the branches of the crepe myrtle trees, leaving behind bare brances. Gracias a Kukuklan!

*************BMW dealership with free latte (You KNOW you are in trouble if they have free latte)***************

FAM: So I had to jump the car and the HAL 2000 says "excessive battery discharge".

BMW guy: Probably the battery but we will check the HAL 2000 with the TWIN HAL 2000 we have here.

FAM: You have a TWIN HAL 2000? How do you put up with the thing?

BMW guy: Sir?

FAM: Never mind. How much for the battery? <winces>

BMW guy: $640

FAM: Holy Kukuklan! I need a battery not a NASA fuel cell.

BMW guy: Well, here is the good news. You bought the preventive maintenance contract so we can replace your wiper blades for free.

FAM: SPLENDID! And you will reprogram the computer to accept the new blades?

BMW guy: <Awkward pause> Oh, I get it, haha.

That's why we need Mem-sahibs. To keep from getting into fights. A few more years and you will be the crazy old guy that shows up at town council meetings and rants about the neighbor's dog crapping on his lawn.

The email announcing the turn is in but not the turn. It's the Hopi taunting us. Right now Rod Admirar Nerson is probably buried to this neck with rattlesnakes all about.

The Newport Beach Tea Party

Every Christmas season, the City of Newport Beach has a Christmas boat parade where boat and yacht owners put Christmas displays on their boats and everyone does a slow crawl around the harbor showing off. This would normally be a hundred boats or more well lit up. Almost all the homes on the harbor put up fantastic light displays. It is really something to see, especially from one of the boats. Commercial operators charter boats for $50 a head. Restaurants fill up. The city charges admission for some. It is a serious financial boost for the city.

This year the city council passed a law imposing a $1.50 per sq foot annual dock fee. For some of the homes this might be $1500. For most it is 400-500 more than than the eisxting fee of about $100. The City claims they need the money to meet EPA rules. Maybe. Even so, the homewoners aren't buying it. Keep in mind some of these homes are worth $30M plus and most are $1-4M in value.

The dock owners started a boycot on both boats and home lighting. there were perhaps a dozen boats well lit up this year. That is an 85% reduction. Only 1 in 4 homes was lit up. It was an amazingly effective non violent protest. They didn't have to go out on the street and get their heads bashed in with truncheons. They simply spent less money on Christmas lights. The parade runs nightly for about a week. The word is out. The city must certainly ahve taken it in the shorts.

That was an alliteration of 4 P's in a row, so, yes, it must be.

Operation Tony, the plan for the re-taking of Port Blair, is being planned. However we recently receieved intelligence indicating that Gran Nicobar hasn't been occupied by JJ. Also little Andaman only has a token presence. The occupation of either would allow us to block naval re-supply of Rangoon when we hit Ramree Island.

The embarkation port for Ramree island will be Madras. This means we can approach perpendicular so the coast thus giving JJ less warning of the approach. If we left from Calcutta we'd be sailing parallel and close to the coast.

I think the QM is going to have something to say about this:

"Mohammed, it is God's will that this clever strategy will not work. Go down to British base in Karachi and see if 7th Armoured has REALLY big front tyres. Mustafa, start a small fire. We will fry up some goat rectums until Mohammed gets back."

The oggin ' is very beautiful without those grey hexagons. I think we will petition EPA to remove ours as well.

If the goal is to provide a base to put some seaplanes to detect LYB ships from coming up from Singapore, then either one should work. If the goal is to build it up and support a landing at Port Blair then, of course, Rittle Andaman is better.

If the goal is to build up the base and support Beauforts or B-25's for naval interdiction then Nicobar is better (although you would have trouble getting fighters in there). To build up either base would require naval support troops and a bunch of engineers and amphibous landings (they are 0 ports). It would take two or three weeks to get to level 2. this would, of course, telegraph your intentions somwhat.

Seems to me, if we want surpirse, and we do, then land at either base the same day as the Ramree force will be spotted, put 15 aviation support ashore and then 6 PBY's....et voila!

Also, as Nicobar is still green, you could put some engineers ashore by SST and try to surreptitiously build to level 1.

I have one of those SST thingys complete with Captain Nemo somewhere in Oz if you need it.

I bought a 4 rib prime rib roast (11 lbs.) at the rich people's store (Pavillions) yesterday for $6/lb. I went to the poor people's store (Ralphs) because they had an advertised special of $5/lb. It turned out to be New York Roast, which is the New York steak cut but left undivided with a strip of fat on top. Looked damn good but I was worried I might dry it out too much. Also, there were lots of flip flops and cut off sweat pants and tattoos at the poor people's store. You pretty much never see tattoos (some of the women have them but they are on parts you can't see) at the rich people's store so it made me feel in the Christmas spirit.

This is the first year Mandrake Jr. (the youngest) has had her own earned money to buy Christmas gifts. I tried to counsel her to go easy.

Mandrake Jr.: Dad, what do you want for Christmas?

FAM: For you to learn to drive better.

I love the "All Christmas Music" stations this time of year.

They run out of spirtually-themed classics so they turn to anything about Winter.

My favorite is "Baby It's Cold Outside". If you listen carefully, it is about a guy trying to get a girl drunk so he can....well....ermm...you know. She seems to want to in the worst way but feels constrained by societal restraints....and perhaps a desire to avoid throwing up for two months. Even more interesting is we don't know how old he is but he does have his own fireplace and she still lives with mom and dad There may, in fact, be a crime about to happen.

In the interests of the season, The World's Worst AAR would like to throw open nominations for the World's Worst and World's Best version of "Baby It's Cold Outside".

JJ has certainly deduced the Northward thrust vector as he is reinforcing Taytay. We'll see if we can do something about that.

Ground attack at Cotabato today. Maybe the LYB garrison isn't prepped.

Given the -35ºC wind chill here recently, I think Bullwinkle and I could do a duet, but I don't think either of us is the type to say "baby" to the other or make innuendos. Drinking rum-laced drinks by the fire is doable though, providing the talk is about WITP-AE.
Merry Christmas everyone, whether or not you celebrate the religeous part of it !
