Intelligence Report Dated:- 29th March 1942

Summary

1. Today's A2A results are particularly good. This is a well above average day, and does not happen frequently.

2. Overall, A2A results are heading in the right direction, although how long this can be sustained is not clear at present.

3. Operational losses are way too high at present, but this is expected due to the excessive amount of offensive sorties being flown at the present time.

4. The complete collapse of the Allies has contributed to 5551vp's ( AALP ), and 2105vp's ( PSAS ) so far. AGS & NGS are pleased with the overall situation.
Pressure must be maintained on all fronts to maximise this valuable contribution to Japan's struggle.

5. Overall the prognosis is good, with a Major Victory predicted if the present rate of advance and losses inflicted on the Allies is maintained.

6. The Emperor has approved of the next stage of the offensive against the British.

Apologies for having separate pictures for aircraft production, but I cannot figure out for the life of me how to 'stitch' images together in Paint!

The Hitachi (early) has been stuck showing 28 engines produced this month, for months now.
I did forget to switch it off at the start of the game and produced 28 of these junk engines before I realised my mistake. You live and learn.

Still producing 8 E7K2 'Alf's' a month as these are quite good for ASW in the backwaters, and, well they look cool!!

I've bumped up the Mitsubishi Ha-32 as a load of useful planes use this engine, and it will probably need increasing again in the future.

The Nakajima Ha-34 is only used for the Helen, but this is the best LB for the Japs in 42-43, so I'll be increasing the engine production to about 120 to keep in line with production.

The Nakajima Ha-35 is being produced by the bucket load to meet production demands, and thats just for the Zero's and Oscars!!

Once the Nakajima-Hikari engine stocks are exhausted I'll switch B5N1 Kate production to something else.
I'm not sure which yet.

The Siege of Loyang comes to a disastrous close for the Chinese Nationalists.
The two Army's can finally split and go onto their next objectives.

It took a bit longer than I thought, but it was worth it.

Minimal losses for the IJA, maximum for the Nationalists.
Thats the way I like it!!

Will be going again for Manila tomorrow, as I had to rest the troops in city.

Soon Sumatra and Java will be 'absorbed' into the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere.

15th and 17th Army's will continue to apply pressure to the Allies in a northward direction to threaten Calcutta.

25th Army will be tasked with the difficult and dangerous task of invading the Indian sub-continent and possibly Ceylon.

Preparations are already underway.

In the Philippines, Bataan will not hold out long with 20,000 troops, and the last vestiges of Allied power will quickly be dealt with.

14th Army will be tasked to take Port Moresby, while 16th Army will finish the remnants of Allied power at Cebu and Panay.

Empire, this is an interesting AAR . I have started reading this from scratch. Hope you won't mind the odd "stooopid" question as I progress through it? Who knows, I might actually start to properly understand the game

Hello Mr. W and welcome!!

Feel free to ask any 'stoopid' questions.....as I make loads of 'stooopid' mistakes myself!!!

You will find that the AAR gets easier as I started using photobucket to post images about a month ago, instead of using Matrix's standard 1 post 1 image setup.

You might even start playing it!! Now that would be cool..... a Warspite/Yamato rematch after my disaster on MWiF .

Enjoy and ask away.

warspite1

Okay so first question Empire. As the Japanese player when do you find out what actually happened i.e. what is sunk, damaged etc.

Well you get a combat report at the end of any engagement, although they are subject to Fog Of War, so are not 100% reliable.

What is cool about WitP AE is that you also see the combat unfold before your eyes, so you see the columns of water that signify near misses, explosions, smoke, planes going down, torpedoes finding their targets etc, so its all very exciting.

With regards to say the Pearl Harbour strike, some ships that are reported sunk may not be, they could be seriously damaged, but can over time be repaired and return to the fray.
The other player may not find this intel out for weeks or even months, so combat reports have to be treated with a modicum of scepticism.

The reverse is also true. You could for example slam a couple of torpedoes from a sub into a ship, but not have the sinking confirmed for several weeks.

Its a very exciting game!!

Okay thanks - just so you know, I've played The Coral Sea..but that is as far as I got.

So what I am trying to understand is what kind of intel do you get to confirm what you've done. So you think Maryland is a gonna - but how do you find out?

Ok so if we take USS Maryland:-

BB Maryland, Bomb hits 7, Torpedo hits 4, and is sunk

4 Torpedo hits is usually fatal to most ships, so we can assume that Maryland was probably sunk, at the time of the strike on the 7th December 1941.

As time goes on, the US will admit the loss of the ship ( you can't keep it quiet forever ), and the score will be adjusted and Marylands 'scalp' will be added to your enemy ships sunk report.

If however we look at USS Tennessee:-

BB Tennessee, Bomb hits 8, Torpedo hits 2, heavy fires, heavy damage

Now we could have got lucky with those two torpedoes, one may have set off a magazine explosion, but we just don't know, so I'd put this BB down as severely damaged, and will probably turn up later in the war after its damage is sorted out.
But if it was sunk, we could get a confirmation the next day, or several months down the line.

FOW can be so infuriating at times!!
