So in a post earlier i described my problem with the landings on Etorofu. Now the AI has invaded Shikuka and I destroyed the landing force with my four mogami's. However the troops still made it to the shore but have been cut off. So i decided to follow up with a reinforcement TF to drop off about 6000 troops and relieve my forces there. However i only detached a small group of escorts as air recon showed nothing in the area( if they even flew as the weather is so nasty up there). Well while my rather large amphip TF was about to unload those 6000 troops a rather angry and not so nice Allied TF consisting i beleive of two heavy cruisers, a light cruiser, and multiple destroyers came in and pretty much whiped out all my transports and escorts. I now have 4000 drowned troops and over thirteen sunk ships, most of which were precious AP's, and still no relief to my valuable resource hub. The question i have is what the hell do i do? Start over? Try and recoup from this loss... its not like i lost a carrier or anything but i now have to scramble ships up there again.. I have two BB's in nagasaki doing peirside repairs and should be ready in two-three days along with their escorts i can send on a patrol up into those waters. The four mogami's have been roughed up pretty good by the weather and need repairs which will take a few days... and now i have to get at least a regiment of troops up there to relieve this out post... what next possible move can i next expect from the allies? Its june 42 btw.

You simply can't afford not covering landings.. As you are playing the AI it is up to you. Sure you could start over but will that make you feel better?

I'll just tread on. Got lots of time to make more mistakes right?? Plus nothing to large lost other then those 6000 troops and the merchies. A lesson learned. I use to play hearts of iron three and having escorts for the merchies was never needed. So I guess I got super spoiled and careless into playing. Lucky the past six months in my game didn't go to complete crap with the way I run things lol.

AI TF can teleport across all the map in 1 turn and appear behind your lines off defence. So sometimes you can replay turn if you suffer unexpected and stupid losess because of this AI cheat.

So then my resources convoy which was also docked in the port was also attacked. So that's almost thirty transports in two turns. I am not really worried about this as I have reserves for now. But it makes me think I need to tread a little more carefully when the allies start hitting things hard in the southern pacific correct??

Do not imagine this game plays anything like HOI3, YOU have to operate in a mostly historical fashion escorting convoys, protecting rear areas.

Well done Andy for updating the AI to threaten rear areas so that players have tostay aware and not just amass their forces to beat up the AI.

However they have to learn to run away, I have had an IJN force trying to invade Bora Bora for almost a month, keeps getting beat up by my 6AV's.

You need to plan a head and have surface combat TS and air cover available to cover your moves and plenty of air search to warm you of whats out and about, because if you have a convoy out tharts no covered with something import on board it will get torpedod, bomb or hit by surface action.

I always keep 8 - 12 of the old short range DD's and maybe a CL or two back on the home islands to cover raids on the likes of Shikuka, always worth moving the INF unit up from the other base at the start to Shikuka and shiping a base force there and keeping one of the small DB units back in Japan for emergencies.

Jeff its one of the main AI weaknesses I cannot give it threat parameters so its mostly my crystal ball

E veryone who plays the AI is defacto playing me (which defacto means me, Brady (who was chief AI tester), Don and James who coded lots of nasties and then all my various opponents

eg. you can thank PZB for all the surface raids which caused mayhem for 6 months post release until everyone adjusted because HE DID IT TO ME
or Simon Prior for the day 2 pearl strike because he was the first one to catch me out with that one
or Enforcer/Dennis for the AI deep carrier raids - ask them what they did to me in WITP with KB at one of the map edges and you will realise where I get my indspiration from
or Pauk for the seriously nasty defence in depth he created

Now these ta tics are easy meat because folks are prepared but for the 1st 6 months after launch I managed to cause unholy chaos amongst the player base expecting WITP passive AI
