I wanted to give thanks to Matrix Games, Slitherine, and all the developers who make these amazing games. Also I want to thank the community for being so helpful. It may seem sappy to write this, but allow me to explain myself. I've been a huge fan of strategy games all my life, which led me to play paradox games. Then I wanted something deeper. I bought Battle Academy and I was hooked. And I wanted more, and you all delivered. I am a beginner grognard. I'm still learning all the ropes and tactics, but it's FUN. I read all the manuals daily. I read the boards, and it sounds weird but its exciting. Another reason why I want to thank everyone is well, i'm an American. And in America, you get taught really awful history. You're taught (at least I was) that the US saved the world from all evil. Things like European History are brushed over quickly to get to American Greatness, which is sad, mainly because i'm quite the socialist. Without these games, I would have never delved into the TRUE history of the wars that have occurred. I would have never learned how the Russians sacrificed so many lives to save us in WW2. Of course in America they don't teach that because they were the EVIL EMPIRE USSR COMMUNISTS. I would have never learned of the contributions of other nations on how they saved us from fascism. Playing these games made me read so many history books from other perspectives. Hell, I was taught that the US singlehandedly saved the world in WW1. There was no mention of other countries that were involved besides France and the UK. I didn't know Serbia was involved. I didn't know a lot of things. I was quite ignorant, I still am. Don't get me started on how they taught us about Napoleon, they barely did. These games are educational as they are fun. Besides the history factor, they really make you think about true strategy. They put you in the minds of those who commanded these wars and the sacrifices they made. They also bring to light how many people have died in these needless disgusting wars. It's sad when you think about it. Even when I lose a unit in a game, I feel terrible. Maybe i'm just weird. Anyway, I have really started to push these types of games to my friends, because I know they will appreciate it. Modern gamers (i'm an old fart at 30) just love flashy modern warfare with amazing 3D graphics and crap like that. Which is fine, I play those games sometimes too, but they really don't educate you about history, and it makes death seem like its nothing at all. I rue the day when teenagers think that what happened in Black Ops 2 was completely true. Last but not least, the community. I've never been in a gaming community as friendly as this, as helpful as this. I wish there were more people who posted, but once again, these are "niche" games. Over the Christmas sale, i've bought many games to support the publishers and developers because they deserve it. They are so dedicated to the games they make and are ACTIVE in the community. They patch for free, add new stuff and listen. I'm sorry for the long post, but I just really wanted to let you all know that every single one of you is appreciated. Keep up the great work. Also make detailed tutorials, detailed AARs (text and video please for idiots like me!) and moveable windowed modes in your games so you can attract new players ;p) Games like Battle Academy, Unity of Command and Panzer Corps are gateway drugs to grognarding. If you have friends who aren't sure, please tell them about these games. They'll become one of us soon enough. In closing: Thank you everyone.
