Now its been a looooong time since I last played one of these games but having just got myself acquainted with the basics again I have a question.

I thought there was some kind of control for putting units together into larger formations by clicking and dragging around them then assigning special keys to those groups (CTRL+1 CTRL +2 etc, etc). I haven't seen that in the help files, am i thinking of some other game?

Some game that I played long ago did that. Maybe Close Combat or Command and Conquer.

Actually I think it was the Civil War series Ctrl+left click on destination....That would be a great feature in CS

Can't guarantee that the game won't be stupid but

5.10 organizational movement
The Campaign Series features two types of “Organizational”
movement, whereby you can quickly and easily move all the
as-yet unmoved units of an organization. Both types of Organizational Movement require that the
“Highlight Organization” Tool Bar button is “on,” thus highlighting all the units that belong to the
same organization as the currently selected.

Column – Select a unit, press the “Highlight Organization” Tool but ton, and then, while depressing
the Alt key, right click in a hex you wish the unit to move to; all of the units of that unit’s organization
will move toward the selected hex. This type of movement is especially helpful when you have a
number of units of the same organization in a “road column;” if so, pick the lead unit of the column
to move. You can also “drag and drop” in lieu of right clicking, if preferred.

Echelon Movement – Select a unit, press the “Highlight Organization” Tool but ton, and then, while
depressing the Shift key, right click in a hex you wish the selected to move to; all of the units of
that unit’s organization will move in the same gen eral direction and distance (but not toward the
same location) as the selected hex. You can also “drag and drop” in lieu of right clicking, if preferred.

Do not use these features unless you are CERTAIN that the area you are moving through is secure, otherwise it can lead to very nasty ambushes.
