Okay, this is causing me to rip my hair out!

I just got my copy of Starships Unlimited. I want to get the 2.0 patch. There's no True Update feature like with UV. But nothing I try to get the patch works!

If I go to to the Download section the Matrix page and try to click the link:
IE -- http://www.matrixgames.com/insidemg/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=37
I get "Server Not Found"
Netscape 7.0 -- same link
I get "530 -- Sorry, no Anonymus access allowed"
(Yes, I had all my other windows closed.)

I found the directions for access the site with a FTP program, so I fired up WS_FTP I had left from my college days.

Here's what I have under General on the Logon Screen:
Profile Name: SoulBlazer
Host Name: ftp.matrixgames.com
Host Type: Automatic Detect
User ID: anonymous
password: My e-mail (gpolander@hotmail.com)

In Advanced I have Passive Transfer checked

And on the Firewall Screen:
Host name: same as above
User ID: same as above
password: same as above
Port: 21

The one thing I'm not sure about is Firewall Type. I tried several ones.

It does'nt matter. When I try to connect, it either tells me
1) 530 -- Not Logged In, Logon Failue
2) 530 -- Sorry, no anonymous access allowed

AUGH!!!!!!!

What is going on? Please, can someone help? I just want the freakin file!

Yes, U2, I saw that thread -- that's where I got the FTP client instructions from. But as you can read, several other people also could not download the patch and no one ever came back to help them out.

My CD is 1.0 because I got it from Chips and Bits and they must have had it sitting around for a while.

I should say I can't download ANYTHING from the Matrix site. They all cause the same error messages.

My Hotmail account is upgraded and can hold 10 MB -- is that big enough? :)

You're willing to send it to me? Bless you.

I still would like to know how YOU are getting it, though, and why I can't download anything from Matrix's site either with a browser or FTP program. This problem is going to crop up again for me.

Hi

Just trying to help:)

I've downloaded it but its 16mb:( Did you get an email with your internet connection? If so and if you connect it to Microsoft Outlook you should be able to get it from me.

Anyway I had this BIG problem with getting "anonymos" and "your email adress" but on my FTP there was a tiny box one could check which was called "anonymos" and then it worked...it even automatically wrote a strange email adress on the password field and it worked!

Hi

Also if it still does not work BUT you use ICQ or MSN Messanger I could send the file that way.

Cheers

Well, I have a second addy at gpolander@cox.net but I'm not sure what the file limit is.

And yes, I use ICQ -- my number is 16480572

I DID check that anonymous box and it DOES produce a strange e-mail addy -- but I get the same failue to log in screen.

Hi

I'll use ICQ and from there you can tell me if your email adress would take it. Otherwise I'll send it with ICQ. Logged on?

For what it's worth, I can't download version 3.0 of Pacific War from the Matrix site, either. (I got the patch only because it was posted in one of the PacWar threads.) I'm going to buy Starships Unlimited too, so I hope I can find version 2.0 in a store...

Thanks, David. That's why I posted EXACTLY what I was doing and what I am seeing in my original note, to try to help you guys out.

I can't download anything at all from Matrix's pages.

Odd how we can't download files by direct clicking on the link like in 99% of other sites on the web......

While I am thankfull for your hard work, I can confirm I still can't download anything with a browser. I'll have to wait to try FTP till I get home from work. Left clicking the link produces a 'cannot find server' while right clicking produces a 'server returned extended information.'

However, I just noticed that this is only happening with SOME of the files now. The 2.0 patch for Divided Galaxies and the 2.11 patch for UV, for example. Other older files I can download by right clicking.

Still doesn't work. :(

Netscape error: 530 no ANONYMOUS access allowed.

IE error: cant find server or DNS error.

It's on all the files not just UV.
