Just starting out here, and seem to be having problems with specifying targets.

For example, I set my 4 B17's on buna and b26's from PM to attack rabaul. I also send up escorts to travel with for as far as they can go...

Problem is my bombers keep going to Lae or gili gili instead.

Any ideas on why this is happening?

Thanks!

Sounds like poor mission planning. Your B26s don't have the range to attack Rabaul from PM. So your local commander is giving them a target that can reach, and cursing the idiot at headquarters who can' t read a map. Just kidding, but that's the way the game is supposed to work.

By the numbers involved, sounds early in the game , yes? if that is so, you have not got any P38's yet? in which case you cant possibly escort bombers from PM or Buna to Rabaul yet.

Just to clarify(AFAIA) escorts are all or nothing in respect to missions , ie they will not escort part way, only all the way or nothing.

Hi, Also even aircraft with the range have to make the "enemy CAP" check. If they fail this check they will not fly the mission.

Hi DigHost,

I just got started too. I'd love to be able to bomb the sh*t out of Rabul too but have found my escorts dont have the legs to make the trip. When do we get those P38s or how bout some Mustangs! Were they even used in the pacific theatre?

I'm thinking about trying a suicidal shore bombardment of Rabul with some CA's and DD's just to make the boys on the Island choke on their Saki wine and say "Hey! Whada heck was dat?"
Might do some damage. Of course Id feel a lot better if we had one or two battle ships!

I just send the B17s...

Even without escort they will hit Rabul about 3/4ths of the time. For some reason the Hudsons will hit it almost 100% of the time regardless (too bad they get pasted... :( )

If you are taking too many losses switch to night bombing. Me, I like daylight bombing and if the loses are getting too much I have been concentrating on the airfield for a week or so. Only thing is they seem to be able to repair the air strip REAL quick when I stop.

But I DO love those big B17s. I will hate to see them go. :(

Cant remember exact dates, but off hand I think P38's start accumalating in the replacement pool around Sept/Oct 42 at a rate of 40 a month. Then you will see these numbers disapear periodically as they are used to swap out squadrons ie perhaps a P39 to P38 will occur. Pays to check when P38 pool depletes to see which squadron swaps over.
