T56. 09.07.1942. General situation. Southern front reached Dnepr! German forcs left Voroshilovgrad. We are 40 miles from Smolensk, positional war for every hex here. Orel is still ours, 40+ German units cut off near Orel, Bryansk is out of danger. Heavy battles in Narva defile - soon we will be in Estonia again.

T56. Another screen of our operation near Orel.

We recognize this moment as critical in 42 campaign so far. German Task Force beginning to have troubles with supply after three weeks of ongoing battles far from rail-road now are cut-off. Soviet forces are supplied exellently, they disposed fine both for defense or offense. We make concentric attacks from all sides using many infantry corps. Our tank corps subordinated to tank armies with best commanders like Rotmistrov. We feel German army can not continue strategic offense anymore.

Unimaginable success awaits you. How did the Axis player allowed this? Why so poor flank protection?

T57. 16.07.1942. Fourth week of Great Battle of Orel. German closed Orel pocket by three lines but we were prepared well - our elite units of 4 fronts attacked panzers on nude steppe, and critical moment - 1st tank army of Rotmistrov opened the pocket near village Naryshkino. This was the greatest tank battle in this game so far - more than 1000 tanks in one hex.

So we won another week of time. This was really black day of Panzerwaffe. German lost 220 tanks and 47 000 men. Only 1300 tanks remain.

I have to confess, that when I opened save and noticed that ring of encirclement was broken I suffered mental breakdown

I am grateful to my opponent that he managed to survive my moaning and encouraged me to continue playing.

Wow, its only July 1942 and your in trouble.

GHC can not do as good as historical during 1941 or they fase disaster in mid-1942 and Berlin falling in early 1944.

The only option is to pull back in November 1941 as I did vs MT. It is the only option if 1941 GHC summer goes poorly. You can atleast get into late 44 or early 45.

I am guessing you will run up the white flag long before that.

T58

Distribution of my forces measured in CV at the beginning of the turn. Percentage of overall strength in specified area - German/Allied - followed by absolute CV strength.

It shows scale of my failure

(13,5%/ 12,5%) North - 137 (Ger) - 137 - (Estonia to Vielkie Luki)

(11,7%/ 10.9%) North/Centre - 119 (Ger) - 119 - (Smolensk land bridge to Bryansk)

(59,0% / 56,4%) Orel area - 596 (Ger), 17 (Hun), 1 (Rom) - 614 -

(10,5%/ 11,7%) Center/South - 107 (Ger), 10 (Rom), 8 (Hun), 3 (Ita) - 128 - (Kursk to Charkov)

(4,3% / 5,6%) South - 44 (Ger), 8 (Rom), 6 (Hun), 3 (Slk), 1 (Ita) - 62 - (Stalino area)

(0,7% / 2,6%) Crimea - 8 (Ger), 19 (Rom), 2 (Ita) - 29 -

Kamil, this is pretty much a dead schwerpunkt. You need to hit him somewhere else, where his reserves are not -- this is the strongest part of his front now that he's dogpiled it with all his reserves,. You can redeploy faster than the Soviet can. Trading body blows with the Red Army is a mug's game.

Forget about pocketing stuff, too, just rout everything out near Orel and clear a path to move ZOC free in the area. Pull out the panzers. Then make him guess where the panzers are going next now that he's committed in full to this particular place.

I just found pictures of Soviet combat orders and awarded them. Order of Red Banner for Tolbukhin and Order of Lenin for Vasilevsky and Rotmistrov.

Awarding could be interesting feature in the game. Another feachure is to add somelike Notes-window to any unit or general. This could be very useful - as for me I would log any interesting event to post them in AAR.

If developers can see this - please add morale filter to Air Groups window!

I fear that you are right. I wasted time and resources to such extend, that undertaking decisive offensive might not be possible any more.

T58. 23.07.1942. Battle of Orel. Fifth week. This tme Kamil is Master of the ring. We were unable to open it although we attacked by all perimeter. Inner lines were very strong + I made some mistakes during previous turn with disposition of my units around his Task Force.

Only two divisions from initial pocket could escape during the battle. So, 13 infantry divisions and one tank corps is a price for one and half month and more than 600 German tanks and about 150 000 men. We recognize this battle as tactical victory of GHC but strategic victiry of SHC. Germans could not reach his strategic objectives, "Bryansk bridgehead" is still ours and defended heavily. Soon not only Orel but all Holy Russian land will be free from German invaders!

Guys, some questions.

1. Soviet Guards air base. How shall be counted 400 frags? I permantntly move groups between fields, do they count from zero any time or what? Or I can just collect units with required stats and it shall become guards?
2. How many fast units to create? Please advise, how many tank corps and mechanized corps you see to be optimal for USSR in 1943.
3. Recovering units from static mode. I turned some units into static mode during Great Battle of Orel (to create infantry corps). I found this is a bait. Will recovering be cheaper in 1943?

Thank you in advance!

T59. 30.07.1942. Unpleasant turn for us. Orel pocket destroyed, and Germans changed tactics. Instead of expected attack on Bryansk brigdehead Kamil much to our surprise enticed by units of Voronezh front. 12 divisions, including one guards are doomed. Nerertheless we held very important position for futher offense. Germans now avoids direct assaults and work on flanks.

It looks as though the tide has turned. I hope your opponent fight all the way to the fuhrerbunker. AFAIK there's very little information about how long it takes to get from Vorishilov to Berlin. I would guess November 1944 ....

Thanks for optimistic forecast. Exactly I made a screen of dinamics in Smolensk area. It calls "Im Westen nichts Neues". And more suitable for Verden-1918.
4 hexes for 6 month (since February). But now we are on T63, and situation is more active. Smolensk battle now is on its peak, we offense massively from Bryansk brigdehead, piles of corpses in best traditions of humanwaves.

Based on my experience playing as axis into '45 I think you'll be in Berlin before you get to 1945. I started June 1944 essesntially on the Dnepr all along the front and my esteemed opponent Von Beanie is on pace to capture Berlin in late February or March 1945 (unless those wonder weapons the Fuhrer promised arrive). I found that once the axis infantry divisions upgrade to 1944 TOE they become nothing more than speed bumps for the Red Army and you appear to be in excellent shape in this one.

I'd hit him hard with your forces north of the Crimea. His lines are already extended because of this area and he will either have to pull back with Army Group's A and B or send his panzers from other areas of the front (and thereby weaken those areas) to stabilize the Crimea. Once '43 hits build up a bunch of infantry corps down there with artillery units supporting and let your cavalry corps exploit - this should give your opponent plenty of trouble.

I believe the kills for air bases are from whatever happens with air units that happen to be attached to it at that very moment, and are of that permanent count for the base itself, independent of air units moving around later.

suspect that's too many for '43 but have only ever got to Jan '43 myself (current game v Smokin Dave). Depends on how many spare trucks you have. If you don't have endless arms points I would prioritise inf corps and arty divs
