ORIGINAL: Colonel Mustard quote:
ORIGINAL: Cap Mandrake Interesting idea presented on National People's Radio this morning...."The IKEA effect". The notion is, simply, that the act of building something yourself (like an IKEA coffee table) changes your perception about the quality or value of the object. In other words, even if one of the legs is a bit wiggly because you left out a washer, in your mind it still seems like a fine piece of Quaker furniture with hand chiseled dovetails. So here is my question, does this work for an AE campaign? Let's say you lose 4 CV and 200 Corsairs, 3 BB's, 8 CA's, 12 DD's, 28 APA's and a division of Marines but you do manage to capture Kwajalein. Does the "IKEA effect" cause you to perceive this as a victory? Maybe not quite a victory, but you would be more proud of all that death and destruction than if you just paid Milo and M&M Enterprises to turn over the island. Sort of like my bathroom tiling project. In this case there are two Admirals, so it might be more like wallpapering a room with your wife ....
