Ok, i had to register to the forum to ask some question quys. I am new to this game, although i handle it pretty decent, this thing with ai is killing me. For instance, i had this game recently, i like to put my fleets on auto manage, and watch how they behave, and for most of time ai is doing ok. But, when i declare war on enemy with single colony (capital), it just say BANZAAI! and sends like 50k strong army against 500+ defenders. And it is doing again and again, wasting huge number of my ground forces (with of course needs to be rebuilt, slowing my growth etc.)
My question is, is there any option to just ban ai from trying to capture colonies or to wait until my transports are great enough in numbers for task of planetery invasion?

I dont automate fleets. You could change the size of the auto fleets in policies that might work? You would need to blockade then bombard the planet and try some spy attacks to soften them up. Heavy defended planets are quite difficult to take over. Remember though bomabrd lowers your approval and if you do too much it destroys all the plantry forces and facilities and your troops wont be able to land and if its a type thats not suitable for your colonisation you wont be able to take it over. So best to manage bombard carefully. Ofc its not a mistake I have ever made ......................... ;-D

Planets with few defenders you can just dump some troops on and it works fine.

Yeah, generally there is no problem conquering minor systems, and even large ones in mid game, there is always enough transports and manpower, and as game progresses, i care less and less for losses (as all large factions doing ) But i think that AI handle invasions poorly in early game, it is just reckless and for this amazing game that really a setback...

I am hoping the new Shadows expansion will address these issues. There will be a big focus on the ground combat part of DW. There will be a lot more detail in in the attempt to attack and defend planets, so the AI might get some attention in this area. Thanks for joining us here at the forum, Nobody987!
