Anybody ever have this confusing issue? CV Zuikaku has 50 planes, 2 squadrons on board, Zuikaku-1 and Zuikaku-2. The third squadron is on Truk. But my capacity on the CV shows as 72 capable/127 used. But only 50 planes actually on board. If i try to fly Zuikaku-3 on or any other squadron, the game says I might overload the carrier and have to destroy planes. Hmmmmmmm. Any ideas on how to fix? thanks!

Your problem is that the A6M3 is not carrier capable. You need to upgrade that unit to A6M2, or if you have it, the A6M3a. That's the problem.

This issue comes up about once a month. Maybe somebody should make it a sticky thread?

No problem. Searching the forums for answers is generally a futile exercise. You have to check every couple of days to keep upwith everything.

Looking at the sticky threads, I think we need to do some rework on them to consolidate some info into a few stickies.

I think one should be something like a FAQ. Both American and Japanese players run into this problem. The F4U-1 is also not carrier capable.

I thought it would indicate that the aircraft was "carrier capable" and if not, then you didn't put it on there unless you are shipping it. When I look at Tracker, it clearly says that the A6M2 and M3a are CV capable, while the M3 has no such indication. Is this consistent with all other documentation? Can a non CV capable aircraft be flown onto a CV? Or can it only be loaded on in a base?

Non-CV capable can only be loaded at a base. They can be flown off one way to a base though.

Ok Bill, thanks. Thanks makes sense. Too bad we can't do twin engine bombers, and do a "Doolittle" on Japan!

You can load P-38s though. Great way to get fighters to a front line base.

And I assume the twin engined mustang too, if you ever get that far in the war! The range on the later P 51s is amazing in both game terms and in real life!

With a rang of something like 40 hexes for the P-38 with drop tanks (the E got even more IIRC) I never had the need to carry Army aircraft with my carriers. I think I would have done something wrong if the next friendly base would be that far away.

I had this exact problem with f4u's at some point, it's something easy to miss before you learn the in's and outs of the game.

If michaelM is still working on the game? I would suggest having the text showing the plane types on the carrier turn red if the plane is non carrier capable. Or some other obvious marker on the carrier itself that the squadron is full of non carrier planes.

I obviously have no clue what's doable codewise, so just suggestions :D.

A sticky is all well and good, and will help many people, but I think this issue is the sort that sneaks up on you and we'd probably still have people asking for help occasionally for this.

There will always be people who miss the FAQ, no matter how you position it.

Yes, its also an easy mistake to make as players upgrade their aircraft. Who would think the Zero's first upgrade is not carrier capable, but the next one is? Color coding the fighter type or having a pop up when converting A6M2's to A6M3's ("are you sure you want to convert, as this conversion will make your Zeroes not carrier capable") could be nice. Though i know from what little coding i've done that could be a monstrous coding effort for the dev's-- all for something people could pick up on the FAQ's much easier.
