Hi,

today I was obliged to carry out some urgent updates for my windows xp system. Now, I have completely blurred windows (see the embedded image).
When starting WITP-AE everything works fine and other processes, too, show no strange behaviour.

Is there any idea where the problem could come from? Unfortunately, there is no way to carry out a roll back in order to achieve the former status of the system. Below ther are some information about my system:

Windows XP Pro, SP 3 Build 2600
RAM 4096 MB
Intel i7 quad core
ATI Radeon HD 4800 (Driver Packaging Version: 8.97.100.7-121116a-152798C-ATI; Catalyst version: 13.1; 2D driver version: 6.14.10.7267)

Any help is appreciated.

Best regards,

Landlubber

Grützi!

Check the command switches in the desktop shortcut for WitP AE. What resolution you got? The blurry resolution might be fixed with the command switches. I use:

-skipVideo -deepColor -dd_sw -px1440 -py900 -cpu2 -archive -autosave

Just replace my resolution with yours, that should do the trick.

Grüetzi again,

I did it as you suggested. Below there is my actual command line with my actual screen resolution:

"H:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\autorun.exe" -skipVideo -deepColor -dd_sw -px1920 -py1200 -cpu4 -archive -autosave

However, it didn't fix the problem. Any other idea?

Cheers,

Landlubber

P.S. I also tried it with your screen resolution and failed, too.

There was also an update of the

ATI Technologies Inc. - Display - ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series driver.

However, I do not know any further details and the device seems to work properly.

Try using 1920 x 1080 instead. Many new HD monitors today use the 16:9 aspect ratio, so perhaps you're trying to stretch things too far with the 1200 setting.

Also another possibility, I use the -f fullscreen switch in front of the resolution switch, so -f -px#### -py####

Dear Jim,

thanks for your effort but also the "-f" in front of the screen resolution didn't help.

Cheers,

Andreas

Well, roll-back the ATI driver Eidgenosse; can't think of anything else atm... perhaps more beer and I'll come up with a solution. You'd owe me a fondue then ;) Try the -w switch, to see how it looks in windowed mode.

Also a roll-back of the ATI Radeon HD 4800 driver did not solve the problem; it must be something else. Next I will install WITP-AE from scratch.

Thanks for all your efforts.

Try this:
I had this issue when I upgraded to a new monitor (20"-->24").
My res is 1920 x 1200.
It was the scaling option in the AMD Catalyst control center.

AMD Vision Engine Control Center -->My Digital Flat Panels --> Scaling Options
I have the check box checked. Or use the sliding scale.

My money is on Budman's suggestion....

Edit: Though the other graphics on the screen don't appear blurred. Another possible culprit could be Windows Clear Type.

Your screenshot looks like 1024x768 resolution.
I think your shortcut is wrong. It has to refer to 'War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe' and NOT 'autorun.exe'
like this:
H:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -multiaudio -deepColor -fd -altFont -skipVideo -cpu4 -px1920 -py1200

Dear Theages,

many thanks for your hint regarding the correct .exe file and not to run "autorun.exe". In addition, I also included in the WITP-AE shortcut -dd_sw (see also: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/upfiles/9/2699985C2242484198A784994B37650D.pdf for further details) resulting in unblurred text in the windows. Hence, my problem is finally solved whatever the underlying reason of the windows update was.

Best regards,

Andreas
