Yes, March 43, corrected...and yes, it's &*$#(@)@)* Haruna.

Ummm...March 1943(c) to correct again. So sorry! [bows]

I would wonder about:

1. Conversion of Chitose, Chiyoda and the other CS to CVL. The conversion will take 11 months, IIRC, so I wouldn't expect those 4xCVLs before mid-late Fall 1943.

2. Accelerated Unryu class CVs may be coming online soon-depending on how much he backed their acceleration. I'd expect 1-2 before the end of the year.

Otherwise, the Arries have done a pretty nice attritional job on the Japanese OOB in this war.

Wow, you basically annihilated his navy already. That's most of his BB's and CV's. Whatever flight decks he has left aren't going to last much longer-- he should almost send them on raids in isolated areas or behind PH or something.

I noticed most of the units you described in preparation for amphibious landings are battalions, regiments etc. Where are the big heavy divisions? Are you prepping for Formosa? Chinese coast? etc etc

Fascinating game to see Allies roll up this early...

We have no unrestricted (and unified) US divisions other than 32nd ID rebuilding at Port Hedland. 32nd ID only has 115 assault points right now. At one point she was down to to ZERO infantry squads, a dozen heavy weapon squads and some arty and suppot. The fight for Port Hedland was a true epic and went on for months. We would have been forced to retreat half a dozen times had we an escape route. Instead the Allied force stood up to numerous 3 or 4 to 1 assaults.

The compnent units of 37th ID just took Manado but need a few fragments to arrive before they can reform into a division.

Americal division got caught up in the fight for Noumea and Fiji and was beat up. They were deployed regiment by regiment in the exigency.

6th and 7th Oz Divs are in Madras, loading onto transports en route to Ramree Island. 18th UK Div is with them.

2nd UK Div was at Port Hedrand too, not sure what the Cap has done with them yet.

I sat down to breakfast this morning and nearly choked on my kedgeree when I saw the Times of India crossword:

1 Across: Victorious
9 Across: Blair
3 Down: Ram

I didn't get 7 Up. Apperntly the answer is lemonade.

HMS Lemonade? Doesn't have much of a carry, does it?

This reminds me of MI5 getting their undies in a wad over Overlord, Utah, Omaha, Neptune and Mulberry appearing as answers in the Telegraph crosssword in May 1944.

I have to admit I don't get the "Ram" bit. Or the "lemonade" thing, frankly. Lemonade is a good thing, right?

Oh wait, crossword answers don't go "up" either....D'oh ..."7 UP'...groan.

No end of the week for me...have to work today and tomorrow...but at least the influenza horror is done.

Near Iba (Luzon): JJ moves closer to San Jose after standing off for 2 days. USS Trigger earns one of those flag thingys on her conning tower.

Kaga appears not to be hurt badly but it will likely take her out of the action for a bit. Payback for Yorktown.

Halfway between Panay and Jolo: This is near the NW tip of Mindanao where the transport traffic coming up throught the Celebes Sea makes its turn to the East. JJ has identified the weakness here. They send in Satsuki as a solo raider. She is unspotted during her run in. She finds the hapless William S Colley which has been trying to unload TWO 155mm shore guns for at least three weeks at Jolo. Some staff idiot sent her back towards Ternate but she was ordered back to Jolo to finish the job she was given. Then the same staff idiot accidentally sent her to San Jose where she was ordered to turn around and go back to Jolo again. Finally, she accomplishes something useful and uses up most of Satsuki's ammo.

Night Time Surface Combat, near Dumaguete at 76,86, Range 9,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
DD Satsuki

Allied Ships
SC-744
xAK William S. Colley, Shell hits 14, heavy fires, heavy damage

Allied ground losses:
Guns lost 2 (1 destroyed, 1 disabled)

Mercifully, she is later sunk by a Jap sub.

We salute , the Sysiphus of Jolo.

Jr. Navy Guy: Sir, we have a message from HMS Matai, near Leyte.

Sr. Navy Guy: We have a ship named after a delicious tropical drink?

Jr. Navy Guy: No sir, that would be "Mai-Tai".

Sr. Navy Guy: Ah, yes. Well, read it please.

Jr. Navy Guy: It's from a Lt. Baker, task force commander..

Sr. Navy Guy: Did you say an "LT"?

Jr. Navy Guy: Yes sir. It's the AI sir.

Sr. Navy Guy: "AI"?? Ah, never mind, just read it.

Jr. Navy Guy: Yes sir. It reads: "Have engaged and sunk en"

Sr. Navy Guy: That's it?

Jr. Navy Guy: Yes sir.

Sr. Navy Guy: What the Hell is an "en"? Go ask the Royal Navy Liason and see if he knows. Also, we were supposed to send back all the Royal Navy crap. Send her back............
