Paradrop on a base and there is an airfield so the follow up troops can be airlifted in - like Crete if you will.

The occupier of the base is able to drop both the airliftable components of the units and also a fair amount of supplies. As the supply stock builds up does the game intelligently say - no land connection therefore the heavy components of the unit cannot be created at the base as a replacement process, or does it just go, hey there's plenty of supply so magically tanks and bulldozers get created out of supply stock.... rather like PT boats etc....

Not asking for a flame war on this, am just interested in whether anyone knows the answer. I'm not saying where I stand on the issue.

Roger

Hello Roger,

The game engine does not model moving specific gear (or devices) from point of production to point of use. If you want to add replacements to a unit in any base, whether the base was taken by air drop or otherwise, the game engine merely uses supply points to simulate the transportation of specific items. (By the same reasoning, a unit cut off in major land areas or sitting on an island whose waters are controlled by the enemy will still be able to use supply points to create replacement devices and men.)

Any replacement equipment occurs only at its usual glacial rate, even if the air-drop seized base has good supply.

The game engine does a good job of restricting air transport movement of heavy equipment.

Agree with the other posters here.

But I know what you mean. The abstracted "supply = toilet paper + replacement 155mm gun barrels + reserve Sherman tanks" makes it easier in some situations
than it really was. Supporting cut of paras might be one of those, but not by too much IMHO, as the restrictions are quite well modelled.

Thanks guys, my inclination is not to exploit such a possibility as I like playing it as 'historical' as I can - will just have to watch how it develops. 1943 onwards the Allies have loads of options with their paras.

IIRC, replacement takes forever unless the base is over 20k supplies. That's not something that's easy to do with air supply.
