The manual didn't really make this clear. If I send bombers from a distant base, and wish to have fighters from a closer base escort, how does one do this? Do you just set the fighters for escort, and then chose the same DH?

What if you are flying a day and night mission but only want the escorts to escort the day mission?

Thank you.

I myself am just learning, but as far as I know, once you set them to "night" missions and hit end turn, they will fly ONLY night missions until your next order phase. They won't fly day missions at all. If you set them to day missions they won't fly at night at all.

Correct me if I am wrong.

I will defer to the more experienced members of this board for your other question.

That make sense, but what about escorting in general?

Do you just choose escort, and target the same hex as the bombers? Wouldn't the odds using that technique arrive the fighters and bombers at seperate times?

I'm sort of a newb too, but yes, you just set other fighters to "escort" and hope they join up with your main bomber group. I think the manual says that a number of factors influence the chances of a successfully coordinated strike: the presence of air HQs and maybe other HQs; leadership; weather; fatigue; morale; experience; etc. It has worked for me.

Also, have you tried not setting targets for your fighters? I haven't tried it in the scenario you are talking about....fighter escort from different bases, but in the same hex, I just set my boys to "escort"....set the CAP level and let them descide if they want to go.

Actually, they tag along with the bombers even when they are on LRCAP missions.
