Rob (Cad908) spent a couple of days putting together the following version of the global map for use when planning production and routing resources. He had assistance from several other members of the beta test team.

The underlying global map, upon which he has layered additional information, is one of the standard double size global maps. If you have questions, I am sure Rob or one of the other beta testers will be happy to answer them. As always, should you have suggestions for improvement, they are very welcome.

[I had almost no involvement in this side project of Rob's.]

The map is nice and it makes using my Microsoft XL WiF production spreadsheet easier to set up convoy lines.

Sorry if this has been discussed previously but the CW countries seem to be a very similar colour to the sea areas and thus very difficult to differentiate.

Chris,

The image shown is a JPG created from a screen shot of the game's double sized global map. The image is compressed so the colors appear somewhat washed. This was done to get the file to fit into the limitations of the forum. The image is "sharper" when viewing the global map while playing the game.

However, the Commonwealth is blue and the sea areas are aqua, so there is not much we can do about that. Also, the green from the USA and the Hawaiian and Aleutian Islands groups are hard to separate from the background sea areas, at least to these tired eyes.

Will this map and other fan-generated goodies be included in an "Extras" folder on the distribution CD?

Greyshaft,

Matrix will make the decision when they prepare the release build, so I guess the answer is maybe or hopefully.

The game's massive scale is daunting for new players and the map attempts to aid just one aspect, production planning. Getting novice players into Matrix World in Flames will be a key to the games success, so this is a work in progress. The map was placed in a public forum to gauge the interest in these kinds of tools, so feedback / reaction is appreciated.

Our current thinking is to include this map as a PDF file. That way players can print it out (or not).

The same map is used for several other purposes than hex control: terrain, weather conditions, weather zones, units on map, convoys, and production planning. What Rob has done is to take the hex control map and place text on top detailing where resources are located.

The game's Production Planning version of this map uses white and gray for land masses and then displays the location of factories and resources in individual hexes (see below).

Because of the multiple uses, the color of the sea areas is rather constrained.

Change the CW to Kakhi.

In all other places in the game, the Commonwealth units are displayed as Blue.

That was in reference to the Kakhi in Flames expansion where they are making all the CW units Kakhi instead of Blue (its much easier on the eyes)
