Mouse cursor locked to upper left corner - 4/16/2012 10:28:34 AM

I managed to reinstall DW after a system cleanup (which by itself was an adventure) and after installing the newest patch, everytime the game is saved, the mouse cursor locks to the upper left corner of the screen (reproducibly). The only thing that helps is alt-tabbing and shutting the game down manually. Due to the time the game needs to power up and load saves, it's getting tedious. Especially if autosave is on.
Any Ideas/solutions?

Right, had some time, did my own research.
Since it might be interesting for the betatesting, here the stuff I found out.

1. You can get rid of this effect by deleting the settings files in your saves folder.
2. Autosave brings the problem back. The moment the game performs an autosave, the mouse cursor gets stuck again and the savegame gets "corrupted" (unless you delete the said files again).
3. Normal saving is possible and does not damage the game but as soon as you got this cursor stuff going, it will be saved in normal savegames too.

One additional thin I observed:
As soon as it starts with the corrupted autosaves, all other austosaves are performed by overwriting the last normal savegame.

I for once, disabled autosave.

I think Elliot will require a bit more detailed information to address this - for example:
1. DW version, OS version (XP? Vista? Win7?)
2. upload of corrupted autosave file (if as you say, the cursor behaviour is repeated when reloading from a saved game, a savegame file for him to examine would be useful)
3. how the "deleting the settings files in your saves folder" affects the issue
4. detailed steps to reproduce (at least on your system) - for example, it happens whenever an autosave event happens

I have been getting a similar problem, I do not think it has anything to do with auto-save or the setting files but it only happens to me with larger save-game files. I have disabled auto-save, but that was because it is takes nearly 20 minutes to do a save (140 MB)

When I load a game the pointer may be stuck in the corner, if I let the game run for a while it may return to normal, if not I select something with a keyboard short-cut and lock the view which returns control of the mouse pointer.

There are now limitations to what I can do, left clicking on the main map will cause losing control of the pointer again. I cannot move anything manually, right clicking on the map will only send ships in one direction so everything has to be left on auto. The only way I have found to attack targets is with the Empire Navigation Tool.

DW version 1.7.0.13

Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2

I upgraded from Vista to 7 at the weekend and this seems to have fixed the mouse cursor problem. Still running out of memory though

There seem to be a lot of these memory allocation failures in 1.7.0.14 - did you check the thread on crash logs? Might be you're experiencing the same problems others are - I'd say add your logs to the thread, regardless. It wouldn't hurt anything.

I'm still running 1.7.0.13 at the moment, was hoping to finish my current game before trying 1.7.0.14, but the last save was 188 MB and I can't free enough memory to load it

Egads! 188mb??? Is that some sort of insanely long "I want to exterminate everyone and fill every planet with my own race" sort of game?

Something like that, I got to the year 3232 and only had four opponents remaining. Will load 3209 again and try to play to the end in one go over the weekend.

I love this game, but this cursor bug is making it almost impossible to play. Running Vista, Legends fully patched. Disabled autosave, but the cursor sooner or later just scrolls to the upper left and can't be budged. Reloading helps every now and then; alt-tabbing doesn't seem to have any positive effect. Clicking wildly and using L-lock on a ship or G to bring up the galaxy map and click a planet will sometimes permit me to regain control of the mouse and play for a few more minutes before the mouse takes off again. Frustrating...
