Hi,

I have a question about air groups. I have several groups that only contains 1-2 planes. I'd prefer to have these groups merged with bigger groups.
Is this possible? Or should I disband the small groups so the planes are returned to the pool and sent out to my groups as replacements?
I'm aware that I will lose the air group forever if I disband it and that might not be a good thing for future operations...
Every advice and information you can give on this topic is appreciated.

/Jens

You'll have to be much more specific. What air groups are they?

We can use my B-17 Bomber group as example. I have one bomber in this group and at the same base I have another group with six B-17 Bombers.
If I disband the group containing one plane will the plane be returned to the pool and come back as a replacement aircraft? Is it a bad idea to do this?

Yes you can it's called Withdrawing but Disbanning will also do it. To do either there must be another group with the same aircraft in the hex and the group receiving must have space for the withdrawing a/c. If withdraw is used all planes will be transferred to the group of your choice (if more than one meets the criteria) with the withdrawing unit returning after 60 days. If disbanned is used both a/c and pilots are transferred and you have the option to return the unit after 120 days. Note that there are some restriction on some air groups due to their permanent disbandment.

There are also restrictions for nationalities. Dutch B-25 squadrons cannot be disbanded into American ones, IIRC.

I'd be careful about disbanding a lot of air groups. I went on a big disbanding spree in my game and I wish I hadn't. Could be using them to train pilots. A P-26 is a fighter and a B-18 is a bomber!
