The assault on Mandalay will continue tomorrow. Still only one Bde is ready to attack at Magwe. 2nd British Division will arrive tomorrow, and while also highly disrupted (33%), will add enough weight that a general attack will be made. There are 13 units at Taung Gyi, a size 4 airbase. We will invest it when sufficient forces are available. Meanwhile recon will commence. Max stacking at Taung Gyi is 45,000, so it's possible that the Empire will stack forces there for a counter-attack. Our strategy will remain to drive south. By cutting the road and seizing Toungoo, Pegu, Rangoon, and Moulmein if we can get it, Imperial troops in this region will be relegated to getting supply via the interior road and by air lift. The armour attacks at Port Hedland tomorrow. Only one unit is scouted there on defense, and bombing revealed it as the 15th Ind.Art.Mortar Battalion. Rekata bay was seized. But continuing a (now) tradition for the USMC Raiders in this game, Ontong Java turns out to be well defended! quote:
Ground combat at Ontong Java (115,131) Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 1874 troops, 19 guns, 2 vehicles, Assault Value = 59 Defending force 799 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 24 Allied ground losses: 15 casualties reported Squads: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled Assaulting units: Sasebo 5th SNLF 44th Field Const Co Defending units: 1st Marine Raider Battalion -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Ontong Java (115,131) Allied Shock attack Attacking force 787 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 22 Defending force 2097 troops, 19 guns, 2 vehicles, Assault Value = 59 Allied adjusted assault: 0 Japanese adjusted defense: 31 Allied assault odds: 1 to 99 (fort level 2) Combat modifiers Defender: preparation(-), fatigue(-), experience(-) Attacker: shock(+), leaders(-) Allied ground losses: 516 casualties reported Squads: 21 destroyed, 0 disabled Non Combat: 2 destroyed, 7 disabled Engineers: 4 destroyed, 0 disabled Assaulting units: 1st Marine Raider Battalion Defending units: Sasebo 5th SNLF 44th Field Const Co -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Rekata Bay (113,134) Allied Deliberate attack Attacking force 3021 troops, 30 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 118 Defending force 0 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 0 Allied adjusted assault: 113 Japanese adjusted defense: 1 Allied assault odds: 113 to 1 (fort level 0) Allied forces CAPTURE Rekata Bay !!! Combat modifiers Attacker: Assaulting units: Fiji Brigade 3rd RNZAF Base Force 17th NZ AA Bde /1 The meager remnants of the Bn are being lifted off the beach post haste. As soon as the carriers are freed from the Rekata Bay operation, three more fighter squadrons will upgrade to Hellcats. Then the Vangunu operation will commence at once. When Vangunu is captured, the division slated for Munda will land there and march to Munda. Coincident with that landing, Torokina will be seized from the air by Australian commandos, after which the forces prepped for Shortlands will land and begin marching. That will be a good point for an operational break, when Wasp and the CVE scheduled for upgrade will retire, as will the various cruisers due for refit & upgrade. Here is a look at the area. We now have 5x LBA fighter squadrons in the Solomons.
