here's the procedure I think I should use (advice welcome):
- create new parallel install from CD, upgrade it to the same beta as my current game, alter shortcuts as req'd.
- rape the new install of unnecessary files (scenarios, soundFX, video)
- copy my current game scenario & its latest savegame to the new install
- ensure the new install uses the same data files (such as maps and pwhexe.dat)
then:
- use the Scenario Editor to vastly reduce the game-play area of my current scenario in this 2nd install so that it includes only the area I want to test (say I want to test B-29 strat-bombers based around Shanghai, attacking targets in Korea & Kyushu, I'll revise the gameplay area to a small box that includes these bases). Then save this 'reduced' thing to the 2nd-install scenario directory.
- open the 2nd install, load the 'reduced' scenario & play a bunch of turns, mebbe 16 or 24.

Assuming I've got the initial procedure right, how do I proceed w/ 'sandbox' turn-play, how should I alter the game-prefs to run a turn-sequence as quickly as possible, can I set the thing to run a specified # of turns, what else do I need to do?

You don't have to reinstall the game. Even making a copy is optional. You can sandbox in the same directory as your main install, but if you want to separate the saves you will need to have a second copy.

As long as you have one valid install on the computer, you can make as many copies of the game directory as you want. So just clone everything to a new directory and your ready to go.

You will probably want to change the start date of the scenario to something in the time frame you want to play. You also set the number of turns in the editor. It will start on the day specified and you can play x number of days.

jmalter,

I just created an own Scenario called "sandbox" in my main game. Its took a bit of fiddling before I figured out the Editor. Its quite antiquated and cumbersome. But I basically cut the map in a much smaller section and then put in 2 allied and 2 Jap bases. Then its just a matter of setting up the things you need for the test like air groups and LCUs.

thanks, wdolson & JocMeister.

JocMeister, your B29s post has inspired me to do some testing, namely, does having my F-7A Liberator photo-recce co-based & co-targeted w/ the B-29s help their bombing effectiveness, or does it just give me better eyeballs on cumulative damage?

wdolson, your advice on 'just copy the game dir' seems preferable to doing a 2nd install from the disc. & thanks for the tip on start-date/#ofturns for the modded 'sandbox' scenario.

I don´t know but I´m assuming that the higher the DL the more damage?

I actually have 4 copies of the game on my HD. One clean and patched install, one game, one BETA and one DBB!
