Status: offline 		0510 today. Me, in the driveway, shovel, foot of heart-attack snow. Just trying to open a path to the end of the driveway so I could attack the plow doots which were two feet high. GOTP drove the Blue Bus out and off to school on time. Two-hour delay, HS started on time. Minnesota can hack it.

The newspaper was there at 0515 and the garbage truck was five whole minutes late today. Ooooorah!

Status: offline 		Spring finally arrived here last weekend. It hasn´t dropped below freezing even during the nights after that!

Been a horrible winter in Sweden. Where the heck is that global warming everyone talks about? Havn´t seen this much snow and cold temperatures in my life.

I hate snow!

Here in upstate NY we joke about our four seasons - Winter, June, July and August.

Back when I was in college, the class that graduated a year or two ahead of me had to have their graduation ceremony indoors due to a moderate snowfall - and that was in early/mid May.

Status: offline 		I've seen snow about 12 times in my life. I've been skiing in Colorado and New Mexico about 8 times. Do the math. Of the four or so times I've seen snow in Central Texas, it has been the one inch dust melted by noon variety with one exception. In 1985, it snowed 13 inches overnight in San Antonio. The paper said it was the most snow in SATX since the Spanish started keeping records in the 1600s.

Cuttlefish and I had an e-mail exchange in which he recently was excited by the first day to hit 70 degrees in Oregon. I replied that in Central Texas, there is no month without at least one 70 degree day, but there are several months in summer when the temperature never falls below 70. Ugh.

Status: offline 		Captain's Log April 19, 2013......I finished snowblowing the driveway while all the male occupants of the duplex quietly slumbered. There are two issues with this, 1 it is APRIL 19th and 2 I, the only woman residing at my residence, is out snowblowing!!! Ryan is it too late to put in my application to rent while you're gone??

Status: offline 		I have a big garden where I grow lots of veggies and herbs. This past Summer (summer began in mid Spring) we had a stretch where the temperature topped 100 F every day for six weeks. The year before they moved the climate zones around on the maps and St. Louis moved to a hotter zone. I used to grow tomato plants that were over six feet tall and the tomatoes were huge. No those plants are puny and the tomatoes too. I've tried growing rhubarb two years in a row and it just shrivels up. Doesn't matter if water twice a day. I even tried refrigerating the water to cool the roots. Didn't work. The collards and mustard and chard plants survived but they didn't start growing again until the temperature came down. The okra was wooden no matter how early you picked it. The peppers were like the greens too. I planted blackberries last year and they seem to be doing well though. Anybody have any ideas about what I can grow here? Oh, and my tomatillos were like the greens, you couldn't hardly see them but then they exploded when the temp came down and matured by mid Fall. The heat just slowed my roses down a bit.

Have you tied beans, peas, corn? Or potatoes, carrots or some of those below ground types? Change sites via amount of direct sun light.
Just a couple of suggestions.

I agree it is great to grow things in but when was the last time you tried to dig a post hole in it? Now that's an Olympic task!
Plus. Still waiting for our record flood since spring wont start.
Plus my Grandfather talked about a spring in the 1930's that the snow did not melt till JUNE!

I do grow some things to give to friends, but I have a mild legume allergy. When I was a kid I would break out in hives when I ate chocolate. I refused to eat beans or peas, even though my mom would make me sit there for hours staring at them until I ate them, which I never did. Lima beans are the worst, but I cannot be in the same room with three bean salad. Now I eat chocolate without problems, peanuts and drink coffee. For some reason I tolerate refried beans but don't care for them. Some dishes with lentils in them I'll eat. As for corn, My back yard is rather exposed to the neighborhood, and while I could grow those and sunflowers for that matter the appearance of them would be unacceptable in my view. I will experiment with snow peas, snap peas and green beans as I kinda like those. I tried horseradish, which I adore, last year without success. I will try again. Potatoes and carrots are just too cheap at the store for the bother. Now asparagus and artichokes I have not tried. Hmmm. I have tried squashes of various types with mixed results. Zuchini and summer squash grow well here, but they hide under the leaves and I too often don't find them until they are too big and unpalatable. Just have to try harder.

We're going over flood stage here this weekend, after that long drought. It's predicted to be like '95 but not as fearsome as '93. Up until recently, the Miss was too low for navigation at times.

Status: offline 		Here in Illinois, we had our annual National Guard golf outing cancelled due to all the rain, and actually had some snow flurries this morning. In fact, our big worry now is flooding, not only from our own rain, but all that snow from you Minnesotans is going to melt and head downriver our way - so if you don't mind, keep it below freezing for a another week or so and keep all that snow up there!

"Rain" is what happens when all that humid air off the Gulf flowing over Texas meets the frigid air coming down from
Canada somewhere over Kansas City. We've had plenty of it this spring.

Went there for the first time in November, as part of a group we formed to Quest For Good Beer. Enjoyed it very much. Unfortunately, we were there on a weekend and they don't do flights on the weekend. I will note that their flights are five drafts of five ounces each, and they had five Stouts on their menu. Coincidence? I think not!

Huh? There's nothing to eat up there but swedish meatballs and canned spaghetti! No way! I once had a business relationship with someone who was imported from Minnesota. Shortly after he arrived he took me to lunch, but asked where we should go since he was a newcomer. I said "Cunetto's" (a very reasonbly priced authentic Italian restaurant) so we went there. He didn't recognize anything on the menu and asked what he should order. I asked "Do you like pasta?" "What's that?" he said. "You know, like spaghetti." He said "Oh, oh I know that." If I recall correctly I ordered for him some carbonara or something else with white sauce, since St. Louis specializes in northern italian.

I do like swedish meatballs though.

Now I know why you call yourself "Chickenboy". Fried, I suppose. That's not legal in MN yet, fried chickenboys may go to jail. Be careful.
