So Geoff is researching the Evil Empire in DBB-C with the objective of trying his first run as Japan in a PBEM. So lets hear from the forumites that would be willing to help the Gecko out in any AAR he decided to write in regards to said game. What am I saying, it will end up me vs. the forum.

AAR's are the best way to gain advice. In some PBEM's the CnC has reached out and utilised economic advisors etc. Ultimately it is up to Gorn to reach out for that, if he wants / needs.

I know you are probably being tongue in cheek, but ... [snip] I withdraw my comment ;-)

DBB-C has a tougher logistics model. I wish both of you the best, but we all know where this will go...

Very much tongue in cheek, but the lizard needs a prod. Heck, if I can succeed as Japan (and I usually seem to end up playing that side) as seat of the pants as I play, Geoff should actually be good at it as organized and methodical as he seems.

Most of my working career was in purchasing, inventory and shipping. Logistics. It should be right up my alley. Of course there's a differance of scale(s), but that's a familiar area for a gorn.

Makes sense as mine is mostly computer network design, with some very profitable excursions into painting and drywall.

wyrmm -

This is good news. I have a real affection and affinity for the Gornster. Why? Well, among many other reasons, we both have a very different (my wife and daughter prefer "weird") sense of humor. He has, over time, rapidly grown on me - I enjoy his presence on and contribution to, the forums greatly.

That said, please let me, for a moment, without disparaging any other mod (and there are some darn good ones available), give my view of Babes (at least according to the World of Mac - which, according to my aforementioned family, is a separate Universe).

AE appealed because I love the historical details associated with the pacific war, AND I am a very detailed kind of guy. In fact, the majority of players, in my view, fall into this category simply because even stock AE is a quantum leap in complexity when compared to any other game on the subject - including the original WitP.

There are, as evidenced in the forums, but especially in the AAR's, many differing styles of play. I happen to really - and I mean really enjoy detailing the map every single turn, using Combat Reporter (an excellent tool) to check the hot spots - not to mention reviewing each TF and systematically working through all the air and LCU's next. I do believe that I get as much enjoyment out of setting up the Japanese economic merchant TF's (by excel checklist, of course!)as I do from a successful invasion or carrier battle.

And when you throw in Tracker - well, I am in heaven (Intel Monkey is on the list, haven't gotten to it yet). By the way, without AE Tracker, I do not think I would have ever made it out of the starting gate...

So when, a while back, a new forum thread started about a mod called "Babes" that introduced new concepts such as "Shore Party", reduced merchant cargo capacities (every vessel counts), reduction of aviation support (no more endless rabbity hordes of AV guys on tap), improved ASW and Gunnery routines (by folks who have forgotten more about math, gunnery, submarine and amphibious warfare than I will ever know); revamped ship and aircraft concepts and stats, the addition of a number of new classes of very useful small craft - which, in the long run, are just as important as the Big Boys - well then, how could I say "no"? And when you throw in Andrew's beautiful map extensions and hex stacking limits (cause real men and women use stacking limits), that's just icing on the cake.

And when it comes to organizing and running the Japanese Economy (which should be HIGH on the To Do List)...

You, Sir, are not alone. There are a number of AE Economic Specialists (TM) who frequent this forum. Fret not Thyself, Salvation, Sir, is at hand. Damien and ny59giants come to mind; there are others. You have but to ask...

So - to sum: Babes is the result of a highly dedicated team of players (including some of the original Dev's) who's aim is to make a mod that reflects the realities of the Pacific War (logistics is, perhaps, one of the most challenging aspects, and can really slow down the operational tempo) while squeezing the most out of the game engine. The Babes Team has some real talent (in all areas) on tap - who are supported by and work closely with other top notch folks - the Babes related Reluctant Admiral Team comes to mind.

Babes 28Cv11 is, in my perception, the whole tamale. Tighten you belt, cause it's a whole different ride, Baby!

I was, at first, overwhelmed. Over time, it has all come seamlessly together (note: that doesn't mean I am a particularly good strategist...<sigh>), and it is just awesome.

Gornster - you will not be disappointed. Resistance is futile...

A Babes Forever, Mac

Me too, I did all kinds of contracting (rehab and the like) before the wholesale work (electrical and plumbing) and did some of the updating of elec. & plumb. in my house. Perhaps you should wear aluminum foil on your head if you come, though. I've got nearly every kind of tool you could need outside of auto mechanical ones.

Mac, to me stacking limits are the most important thing. I keep going over and it's a real gitch (a gorn in female form in heat).

Well, we sure do appreciate Mr. Mac. Appreciate him the more so because his honorarium was held up by the beaurocrats, but he didn't care. Thanks Mac.
[ed] I'll take care of it.

And besides all the lovely things Mac says, there's some AEster eggs in the code that utilize the Babes ships and classes in ways that aren't necessarily highlighted on this part of the forum.

Oh Yeah!! Babes has stuff in it that will float your boat above and beyond your nominal expectations, if you are bright and attentive enough to notice!!

Thank you Mac. Regards, JWE

JWE -

You are quite welcome, Sir

Gornster -

It will be a heck of a lot of fun - just do it!

You were "Gorn" to be wild...
