Want to add my voice to those thanking you for the 'deals of the week'. Whilst these current titles are not of interest I brought 'Forge of Freedom' last week and already have my eye on a couple of other titles should/when they become available.

Tried the Steel Panthers fix for Windows 7, but no go. I unzip in the main SP file, the screen flashed, a dos window appeared momentarily, then nothing. I posted for suggestions in the SP forum, but no answers.

Try one of these tool I uploaded to my mediafire account.
http://www.mediafire.com/?j75bym3nffykb

I used them originally to fix the problems with Starcraft but they should work for all games that compatibility issues with DirectDraw.

Here my original post at the Windows 7 Forums.

Thanks for the answers. I guess I will pass on this sale. Don't want to spend $30 on a 'maybe it will work if you do some tricks' type of game. Hopefully Matrix will put games on sale that work with current operating systems instead of these old XP compatible games.

No, don't pass it up. The fix DOES work and it is really easy.

As far as I know, UV works fine on Windows 8. I can double check that tomorrow. Yes, the Windows 7 work-around should work fine with Windows 8. I can also double-check that.

Did you find out if UV works on WIN 8? Anyways, I saw enough posts to make me want the SPWAW-GE for my laptop w/win 8 (coming from XP its a drag)! The price is right, and SP first brought me to Matrix Games!

So I downloaded the SPWaW from the links in the forum. I applied the affinity fix so that it uses only one core, and it did not work properly until I set some compatibility options. Namely, set it to

x Run in 256 colors
x Disable Visual themes
x Disable desktop composition

I think the key is "Run in 256 colors". Possibly the affinity helped too, not sure.

I did this for mech.exe and spwaw.exe. It seems to work fine now. The only problem I have is that window scrolls way too fast. I need to use the minimap to scroll the window.

With respect to all. IF this is so easy to fix why isn't this integrated with the installer?

In the preferences screen there is a scroll delay option. Setting it to 2 seems best for me. I wish there was a 2.5 though.

Having a blast with SPWAW so far. I usually play CMx2 for tactical stuff, but have found it a bit too tedious to play lately. SPWAW is so much easier to just get right in and start playing. No triple checking LOS so your MG's position isn't off by one inch, yadda yadda. Plus being able to fight in every single theater is so exciting. So many options, I don't know where to go first!

Got and downloaded SPWAW-GE to my new WIN 8 laptop and it is working great right away without any work-arounds! Even the artillery (fighter bombers at least) is working without needing to hold the shift key down, which I have to do on my old WIN XP desktop with the free version!

I have three of the four games offered so far - that's not a complaint, merely an observation.
I'm sure there will be other deals that I do take up so please keep the deals coming.

I really hope Matrix puts one of the more basic (easier to learn) strategic games on the deal of the week, like Commander - Europe at War Gold or Gary Grigsby's World at War: A World Divided. I really would like to try one and see if I like that kind of game. Have been playing Panzer Corps (my first "real" wargame) and would like something thats a little more like Civ and the Total War series and not just tactical.
