Hello all,

waiting this game I want to give a try at the old one: BARIS

If I understand correctly there is an updated version of the the original game named "Race Into Space" and it is free, do you know if it runs on Win 8 or I need a third part program?

Then, I read that SPM will be available on iPAD too, can a game so complex works on this platform or ,simply, the new game will be more easy than previous one?

Hello Blind Sniper,

I haven't tried it myself, but I understand that the "Race Into Space" version works on modern operating systems. If it doesn't work, you can always get the original game (it's in the public domain now, so it's freely and legally available for download) and run it inside DOSBox.

Indeed, SPM will be available on iPad. The iPad is a very powerful computer (orders of magnitude more powerful than the personal computers from the early 90s), so it will support SPM fine.

Cheers,

--Ignacio

I was able to run Race Into Space on Win8 with no problem.

Surely you are right but I never found good and complex games on iPad, of course I really want to be wrong!

Btw, Ignacio my best wishes to your project!

Oh, I see what you mean now regarding the complexity. SPM's rules are heavily based on the original BARIS, although we have added some twists (e.g., personnel management). We are not making it extremely hard to understand but we're certainly not dumbing it out either.

According to "complexity", i remember that the original BARIS was a extremely hard game. Reach the moon was very dificult without catastrophic missions and, usually, some deaths of astronauts. The SPM will be equally a hard game?

Sorry if I have not been clear but yes, I meant that.

We still need to tackle some of the balancing aspects of the game (especially with all the changes we've introduced in the past few months to the game rules), but my idea is that SPM will be moderately hard.

Just to be clear, the game rules will be as complex as the original game (probably a little bit more) whereas the difficulty level will be adjusted so that the game becomes fun to play but not frustrating.

Cheers,

Thanks for the answer, very clear now. For me, the most frustrating aspect in the original was the direct correspondence between BUDGET and SUCCESS in missions.
You had the bad luck of two consecutive catastrophic missions and goodbye to win the race..

Well, I don't really known sure, but BASPM got a more wide budget concept. You not only earn money when you launch something successful, but also commercial launched of satellite companies.

Ok, I downloaded it and played a bit (following the Race into Space tutorial), I like it and can't wait the new version!
