I'm trying out the first senerio, Coral Sea.

Three questions.

1. I spotted a Japanese task force aproaching Buna, but everytime I tried to set a air attack on the Japanese task force I was promted "cannot attack TF" ???

2. How can I get fuel to Buna, I can't can get cargo there before the Japanese get there, but not fuel. I thought of loading fuel barrels in some of my C-47's, but I guess this is not a choice.

3. How can I get troops to Gili before the Japanese arrive. I tried marching from Port Morsby, I was prompted that I couldn't do this, I tried a fast transport from Brisbane (I think), but that couldn't get there in time either. ??

Hope I can help a little. I also hope you are enjoying the game and these knotty little problems we all face not only when first learning how to play, but after many moons of struggling along...

1. You cannot target individual TFs with your air units. All you can do is assign them to "naval attack" and hope for the best. the more naval search intelligence you have, the better your chances of attacking (and attacking the enemy TF you want to attack - often, your pilots will go after ships you consider unimportant as targets - the vagaries of theater-level command, I'm afraid. Your subordinates can be such idiots sometimes).

2. The only way to move fuel is by ship, and then only by ships equipped to load and unload it - TKs and AOs.

3. You can move small numbers of lightly-equipped troops with search aircraft like PBYs.

So you really have to run air ops out of Port Morsby for fuel reasons, or have your have your planes low on fuel in Buna, I guess this is strictly a carrier senerio.

I hope in the new game they allow you to decide where your planes attack, kind of frustrating to let that taskforce land when you spot them well ahead of time.

A few times when I was really desperate to get fuel quickly to some base, I ordered an ordinary AP transport force to load fuel. It worked, although they carry much less than their normal capacity (about half IIRC).

Whoops. I think I partially misunderstood your question. In UV, fuel is only important for ships. Air units draw their fuel from normal supply.

Oh, that's good to know, so cargo planes can bring in aviation fuel to Buna I guess.

So if a base has supply, but 0 fuel, you can still keep the PB-y's on patrol?

"Fuel" only applies to ships.

LCU's and AirGroups are affected by "Supplies"

2. Be careful of where you descide to launch aircraft from. Make sure the Airfield is big enough. Read the manual about Airfiled size.

3. Gilli has 0 airfield right? Only thing I can think of is send your CV's up to contest their landing. I posted a little strategy in your other thread on that, it would work contesting Gilli. The other thing you can do is just let them have it....as long as they don't take PM you should be ok. I am 5 months into the "Campaign" and I JUST took back Lunga.
