AAR / Guide Recommendations - 5/16/2013 2:33:34 PM

Hey guys,

I played DW a bit when it was released, and enjoyed it. I picked it up again with all the expansions, but didn't really play much and have been waiting for Shadows before I dive back in.

I'm looking for some good gameplay AARs to bide my time until Shadows, and to help me relearn some of the basics. Narratives are ok, but I'm mostly interested in gameplay AARs that focus on the strategy and mechanics.

I have been looking through the various Guides and Wikis, but many of them are outdated and incomplete.

Can anyone recommend some good gameplay AARs and / or fairly complete guides?

Thanks!

Go with Das24680's youtube channel, filter out Playlists and start with the Distant Worlds RotS one (yes, even if it is for Return of the Shakturi). After that you can take his Legends AARs further, maybe not the Collaborative one first (but your choice).

The immediately next for instance (7 videos) is a good one and then also you can do the Collaborative one.

Thanks for the link. I am familiar with his stuff, but I generally don't go for video LPs / AARs. I greatly prefer being able to read at my own pace. ;)

Thanks!

I am with you.
But with this game I rather see how things are done, as that would take way longer explaining what is clicked where and how...

However with knowing the game the reading part might omit the basics, true...

On that note, did not delve into written stuff myself :)

Hi,

I came across this site when I was looking for some written information. I think it's quite old, but some of it still seems relevant.

//sites.google.com/site/lonniecourtneyclay/home/distant-worlds-game

I can't post a clickable link, because I'm a new member, but if you paste the above url, with https: at the front, it should work.

I think the same person may have also posted a guide on this forum, but I didn't see anything as detailed as in the link above.

Hope this helps.

my favourite one is larry monte's 'lets micromanage distant worlds', i found it very informative on how does the game actually works. i'm not able to post clickable links yet so youtube.com/watch?v=nWlTJHwNS1k&list=PLzEZx9zuF9_4YE6SjyawMFYE-WOQkKSEF&index=1

There are a lot of great text and picture AARs in the AAR sub-forum. Just make sure you set the view options to "View All Topics" instead of the default that only shows threads for the last year and that should keep you busy for a long time.

Regards,

- Erik
