Hey people,

I've recently found a game that may interest other fans of Distant Worlds like myself. Void of Darkness is a space trading/fighting/eploration simulator in the same style as the good old Starfligt series. The inspirations from Distant Worlds are clear, and the creator states that it's one of his visions with the game to create a living, breathing galaxy - like DW - where the player controls and manages a starship; explores and fights aliens.

Void of Darkness is currently in Alpha and I've been allowed to test it out. It's really promising, and should interest all space-game fans out there. Check out the VoD homepage and its ModDB presence.

But is it realistic?

It's a good thing then that you can mine asteroids in Void of Darkness, so thank goodness that feature isn't too far fetched. I'm writing the game so I should know. :)

Yeah, I actually really decided to go through with this project because of Distant Worlds reigniting my passion for space rpgs. When I first opened DW and looked at 'alternate way of play' and read the part about pick a ship and explore the universe, I was hoping I could actually control it as that would be awesome to do in the DW universe given how alive and rich it is. Even though you can't it was still cool to guide a ship. I would create a hugely overpowered ship and go on raids... :)

So I want to create that aspect of it in Void of Darkness, hence the inspiration from Starflight, since starflight was the rpg, and DW is like the vast universe.

Well hello everyone...

I am so happy to announce, that VOD has entered a beta testing phase. It is feature complete, and feature frozen. I will be polishing, and fixing bugs and working on the user experience and learning curve. Some place holder art is still in, and some more sounds are needed, but those are assets which have nothing to do with the code and the way the game can now be experienced.

The official launch date is now December 15th. So three weeks of feedback from anyone playing the game will see it in even better light.

Thanks!

Void of Darkness
