Quick and fun exercise. Name the ranks left to right. Be as specific about the service as possible.

I could do this, but I'll let others have the fun.

This looks like a museum exhibit, so it's understandable they got close, but for the US Navy (three of them do/could apply) enlisted personnel don't have rank. They have rates and ratings. Officers have rank.

The third from left is a Chief Petty Officer's badge. That's the rate. The rating is Boatswain's Mate. The badge is for a Chief Boatswain's Mate. There is another fact revelaed in this particular one as well; it's inherent in the design of this Chief's insignia that would not be there in other BMC's insignia.

2nd one is a major, not a light col.
4th one is a Marine PFC. Lance cpl would have crossed rifles under it.
5th one is a T/4 or Technician Fourth Grade. It was called tech sgt by the troops.

Second is also a Lieutenant Commander in the USN/USCG.

Doesn't the answer really depend on whether or not you like the guy and whether or not there are snipers around?

Well, that's that settled then.

Had a brain fart on the major, forgot silver is higher than gold.

That's right, and General of the Army should have a lump of coal.

The chief's gold strips indicate "good conduct" for his/her service. The stripes would be red if not.

Slight addition: gold for 12 years of continuous good conduct. Would be paired with gold hash marks on the sleeve. The chevrons would be red for service dress blues, but blue for whites, with hash marks to match. Female badges and chevrons/rocker are smaller in dimension, about 3/4 I think.

Being a Brit the 2nd and 5th actual rank I do not know but might have hazarded a quess. As a plus if any were wearing our highest military award (VC) then those as well.
